This is pretty silly. It's not a civil war if only one side has guns. Plus almost all the fatalities will be indirectly caused by guys with .30 hunting rifles shooting out big transformers on high capacity electric transmission lines, or at switching yards. The really scary thing is that this has already been tested at a switching yard in either Santa Clara or San Jose, California.

What makes this possible is the long lead time required to manufacture those really big transformers. Hopefully it will be possible to make them via 3D printing before the trouble starts.

My present ball-park guesstimate for fatalities if this goes down is @ 40 million +/- 20 million, mostly in the BosWash corridor. No power means gas station fuel pumps won't work means no food transportation and no water pumping, let alone sewage treatment, plus people can only get around on foot.

Millions will die horribly. This is not anything anyone sane wants, and I hope it never happens.

But I think it will in the second term of the next Democratic President given the way things have been going.

“War or the equivalent gorilla warfare....”

I will go out on a limb and assume you meant “guerilla” warfare. Because if you really meant “gorilla” than you’d have to fight my wife, who has studied primates for decades.

The point I was making was more about the target list. I just don’t think that if they were the ones who started it all...

In classic old style war you bomb the railroads (hit infrastructure) - because that feed the war machine. My list was created with the idea our enemy is small in number but big in propaganda... and a fast attack on that front might cripple their war effort before it fully started...

I was throwing the idea out to see if others had a better list... or additions etc. We need to think about this BEFORE it starts (if ever) because the left owns the means of communication.

So, in a possible commie takeover (where we have limited private citizen resources) what would be on your list?

GOOD on you. -I cannot tell you how many people that I know who have TRIED recycling lead-acid batteries. NOT a good plan.

Frankly, I don’t know if STONE bullets would work or not.
(I would guess that stone/granite would damage your barrel.)

I worked in China the last year of the cultural revolution, 1976. I arrived in Beijing two weeks after Mao died. I was there to start up the steam plant in a fertilizer factory being constructed in the Yunnan Province. There were days when no workers would show up at the plant to do any work. They would all go to political rallies, bring pots and pans to bang, everybody had their little red book of Chairman Mao to wave in the air and every person wore the same gray Mao suit. It was shocking to see that coming from the USA.

The cultural revolution is upon us here and we are not far from witnessing what I saw 44 years ago.

Why not just buy it now?

For the most part, from what I’ve seen, finished ammunition and reloading supplies are still generally plentiful.

YES, I DO BELIEVE that a LOT of us “hillbillies” (wherever located) WILL resist & IF REQUIRED with massive “force of arms”.

A modern civil war (UNLIKE “The Late Unpleasantness” of 1861-65) will be EXTREMELY UGLY, with NO gaudy/gold-trimmed GRAY or BLUE uniforms, NO great war horses, NO flashing sabers & with damned little “glory” to be had by anyone.

I pray to God that what I fear after 03NOV20 will NOT come to pass BUT if I have to I still know how, even at my age, to lead a regiment-sized guerrilla force & will cause a great deal of HAVOC to disrupt/delay/destroy the opposing forces of the FAR LEFT. - Fyi, a person who is trained, as I once was, to fight guerrillas can also FIGHT/LEAD a force of GUERRILLAS.
(Official DA policy says that it takes 100-200 frontline troops to defeat ONE talented guerrilla, who is adequately supplied & “fighting on his home ground”.- In my experience, each guerrilla can “tie down” 300+ regular troops.)

Should a shooting civil war breakout, I will be FAR from the only guerrilla chief to field a fighting force of 10-300 fighters/support folks.
(Give any trained guerrilla leader one to 100+ two-five member teams & such a group will tie-up a Brigade or even a Division of regular “main force” troops.)

Of course buy now. But how long will such a conflict last? What will be the supply sources a year into a conflict? Five years? A decade? Who will control ammunition supply, logistics, supply chains, etc?

It won’t be like the Union owning all the industrial production in the Civil War. It will be more like how the Taliban and other guerrilla groups around the world get their weapons and ammunition.

That is why I would put metal jacketing on it, something to think about. The other thing is a sabot round, I know the government was looking into small sabots, such as would fit a .50 or even a NATO 7.62. Their problem was that it would bounce around in the barrel. I know that shotguns have used slugs but a sabot fleschette would have different ballistics and there is no way to trace the barrel. That is where my mind is going on this.

IF what you seem to believe is likely to happen DOES OCCUR, I know how to “live off of” the enemy forces, for as long as is necessary.

I suggest that you read up on the history of the first months of Wendell Fertig’s guerrilla in the Philippines against the Japanese forces in 1942.
(BG Fertig had less than 50 fighters until the last months of 1942 & his rag-tag/poorly supplied group of US military & a few Filipino local nationals tied down over 18,000 “crack” Japanese troops.)

It’s been said the IRA never had more than 200 active rebels at any one time … nonetheless, they managed to keep the Brits in knots for decades.

Kinda gave up reading at “The coup plotters will act quickly to seize the critical levers of power, before any opposition has a chance to react.“ The response would be rapid, vicious, and overwhelming. Military would depose the coup quickly. Any sign of support for the coup would be an immediate target by a million lone wolves.

This is why The Swamp must maintain an air of legitimacy.
