From the year that brought us murder hornets, famine-inducing locusts and the global coronavirus pandemic, comes the latest airborne scourge: a 50-mile-wide swarm of flying, and mating, ants.
The horny swarm currently copulating over England is so vast, it showed up on radar to the bafflement of meteorologists, the Telegraph reported Friday.
Weather watchers initially believed the weird droplets on their radar screens were rain clouds.
But that made no sense given the dry and otherwise cloudless weather being enjoyed below in London, Kent and Sussex, the report said.
Britains Met office later cleared the mystery up in a tweet.
Its not raining in London, Kent or Sussex, but our radar says otherwise, they wrote. The radar is actually picking up a swarm of #flyingants across the southeast Ant . . . During the summer ants can take to the skies in a mass emergence usually on warm, humid and windless days.

I, for one, welcome our new overlords.
Only a matter of time before they have open bloody gang warfare with the murder hornets. Wear a mask! It will protect you from ants, murder hornets, Trump voters, and falling pianos! Because, Science(tm)!
The queens from an established nest, flying with their mates in search of a prime location to begin a new nest.
Texas, home to a vast number of FIRE ANTS are frequently seen flying to begin this cycle. Not unusual in the least.
Are people still allowing the press to scare them with such nonsense?
Failed to mention:
Fess Parker saw these ants fly, not knowing what they were. He was promptly put in a strait jacket, the authorities told to keep him a while longer. (”THEM”)
Oh great! Now the little bastards will be coming at us from the sky too. Who taught them to fly?
what’s all the panic about? It’s not like the swarm was 51 miles wide or anything
We just got over an infeststion of stink bugs INSIDE the house. And we’ve had flying ants in the past (carpenter ants!). Had our share of Ladybugs too. Each spring it’s love bugs. I call’em that because all they do is fornicate...and have little mite-looking babies by the thousands that smear red if you squash’em.
Don’t even get me started on yard weeds. God seems to give us a new variety every year. I thank Him for His bountiful gifts...then I Round’em Up.
Yes, very. Imagine, Davy Crockett in an asylum. James Whitmore was also in the film. Remember him?
And Matt Dillon, (James Arness)
Right! Thanks. “Gunsmoke”. My dad seldom missed watching
Also, Edmund Gwenn. He also played Santa in the original Miracle on 34th Street w/Natalie Wood. He played the Doctor in this one.
Don’t remember this one, but Leonard Nimoy also thrown in the mix, playing a member of the Air Force.
they should take mucinex- they all look congested-
Yes Nimoy was in about 5 seconds as an Air Force clerk, he tore off a teletype sheet and handed it to, I can’t remember who, lol.
What? No scary, but catchy name?
Love these type movies.
Them, Deadly Mantis, Beginning of the End (grasshoppers, Peter Graves), Tarantula, The Black Scorpion, It Came From Beneath the Sea (octopus), Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (dinosaur,w/King Donovan also in Invasion of The Body Snatchers, and Cecil Kellaway cousin, of Edmund Gwenn)
They don’t make movies like they used to!
