Dr. Anthony Fauci said Friday state and local government leaders should be "as forceful as possible" in urging the wearing of face masks to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus, which the top infectious disease expert says is still in the first wave in the United States and has hit Americans "very severely."
Fauci said the United States needs "to get better control" over COVID-19 and masks must be a priority as the country opens up.
"I would urge the leaders -- the local, political and other leaders -- in states and cities and towns to be as forceful as possible in getting your citizenry to wear masks," Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said during a video conference with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
"...Physical distancing is the most important, but practically when you're living your life and trying to open up the country. You are going to come into contact with people. And for that reason, we know that masks are really important. And we should be using them. Everyone."

Average size of holes in a fabric mask: 30 to 70 micron.
Average size of the virus: .01 microns.
N95 stops 0.3 microns and thus most droplets. People can't and don't need to stop virus particles. But with speaking which is what we are mostly protecting, most droplets are over 0.5 microns. Even a cloth mask will stop some particles and 0.5 nicron droplets although not many. Cloth masks don't fit the analogy either, but they are probably not effective.

Doesn't really matter. Minimal droplet size is about 0.5 microns. A cloth mask might stop a few percent of those. Not very useful, but not nothing.
Wearing masks and herd immunity are complementary. They achieve the exact same result.

There are few studies with both infected and uninfected people masked. The theme through all the studies I have read so far is that there are inconsistencies and it might help in some cases. They seemed to help in the salon but that tended to be shorter interaction times. Lots of confounding factors in other studies liike other protection makes it difficult to separate the effect of masks.

Rage out of control? Please, many that test positive have limited or no symptoms...it has a 99% survival rate...you want to wear a mask? Go right ahead.
How is Trump going along with Fauci on masks? Because he wore one at Walter Reed Hospital? He should have there. There are immuno compromised and other sick people there in higher density than general population. Other places and out in the open, no.
Trump has not pushed back on these insane mask mandates. Not in the least.
