Dr. Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), says the idea of firing or demoting Dr. Anthony Fauci is unimaginable.
This is a remarkable scientist who has led NIHs efforts in infectious disease with great distinction for more than 30 years, and who continues to be our lead in vaccines and therapeutics for Covid-19, Collins told STAT News on Friday. The idea of losing that leadership at this critical moment for our nation is unthinkable. Fauci currently serves as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, which is part of NIH. Collins is Fauci's boss.
When asked if he would dismiss Fauci if it was ordered by government officials such as the President or the secretary of the US Department of Health and Human Services, STAT reported that Collins only laughed and said, I think you heard my answer.
STAT also reported that Collins touted Faucis decades long scientific acumen as a national asset, and said this was especially critical at this time.

Yes but Trump can fire Collins...
Fine. Fire Collins.
Ignoring and firing are 2 different things. Sounds like they are baiting Trump to fire the liar. He won’t bite.
He could get Fauci to retire.
If he has been there more than 30 years, he is the deepest of ‘Deep State’..
It’s unimaginable because they are both career civil servants (swamp rats) and un-fireable, no matter how incompetent.
Yup pretty much untouchable ... amazing isn’t it.
I guess the silver lining is that Fauci is increasingly the subject of public debate. It’s something he’s never been in his entire life and something he didn’t bargain for when he opted to become a celebrity. He’s likely not prepared for it getting intense.
There is some serious good cop/bad cop gaslighting of Tony going on. Navarro prints an op-ed saying he’s basically wrong about everything. Trump chastises him (even though Trump has said similar things). Mark Meadows then chimes in to chastise Navarro but while doing so points out that Tony was wrong about something else again.
“Peter shouldn’t have done that. Going outside the four walls to the media is not being a team player. Hey, Tony, you just blabbed to the Atlantic. Aren’t you a team player?”
Some type of strategy underway here.
Trump actually needs to make a statement and fire Fauci or fire Collins if Collins won’t fire Fauci. He doesn’t exercise any authority at all over these people and they know they can taunt him as much as they want and he won’t respond with anything but a tweet.
This incompetent, elderly bureaucrat was for some reason given enormous power by Trump and has used it to sow panic, destroy our economy and our private lives, and now seems to be continuing to do so with his latest hysteria. He hasn’t been right about anything and there is no reason to defend him or keep him in his position.
It would restore a lot of confidence if Trump would get rid of him.
Dr. Robert Stadler weighs in on Dr. Floyd Ferris. :)
There should be mandatory retirement in government jobs.
Only took one post.
Time to clean house at CDC, big time. Swamp runs Marianas Trench-like at CDC.
Yep, and it doesn't even have to be unreasonable, it could be age 72 for all I care.
Trump gave that speech yesterday about deregulation, which ordinarily would have been a great event.
However, he seemed to be utterly tone-deaf to the fact that since the China Flu hit us the CDC has been cranking out massive reams of regulations reaching down in to the most minute details of daily life. They’ve undone in just weeks everything Trump took three years to achieve.
Draining that swamp is indeed an imperative.
Even after 37 years of being unable to develop an AIDS virus, he is an ‘expert’.
Hmmm... Doctor Fauci? Doctor? Could anyone in their right mind envision taking an injured or sick child or other loved one to Doctor Fauci for examination or treatment? It would be pure insanity.
But, by all means, lets put the health and well-being of our nation in this paper shufflers hands. /sarc
“Can we skip the technicals please?”....Collins!
Arrest him for pimpin’ already.
But the bland generalities he spouts are taken as brilliant. He's more a politician than a scientist.
