Supreme Court keeps in place Florida law requiring felons to pay fees before voting

The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected a request to block a Florida law requiring those who have been convicted of felonies and served their sentences to pay outstanding fines and fees owed in connection with their cases before voting.

The court's order keeps the law in place heading into the state's primary election for non-presidential races, which is scheduled for Aug. 18 with a registration deadline of July 20. Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Elena Kagan dissented with the majority's opinion.

"This Court's order prevents thousands of otherwise eligible voters from participating in Florida's primary election simply because they are poor," Sotomayor wrote, joined by the other two dissenting justices.

No, Justice Sotomayor, this Court's order prevents thousands of otherwise eligible voters from participating in Florida's primary election simply because they are not finished paying for their felonies................

Felons used to be excluded from voting. We should return to that SOP.

It’s interesting how it’s a foregone conclusion to the people pushing for this that the ex-cons will necessarily vote for their candidates. To simply be able to assume that the ex-con voting bloc is already in your bag.

6-3; even Breyer agreed: the six men v. the three women.

Many states have long had a way for ex-cons to be re-instated as voters.

Simply because they have not paid their debt to society for the crimes they were convicted of... its amazing how this shit works and how these loons can’t figure it out. Just like their leader, Hillary, who thought first downs won football games.

For anyone part of completing a criminal sentence includes payment of all fees and costs. So a felon has not completed their sentence until such time of full payment.

We've had more than enough hens in the Supreme Court. No more.

Boom!

Unfortunately this is not true in other states, which have actually set up voting precincts in prisons so felons can vote.

I always believe that if you have done your time, you get your rights back, including gun rights, if you are a felon, you need to still be in jail. If you are done, done with parole/probation and paid your fines you had to pay, you should get 100% of your rights back, including voting, including guns, including everything else.

Sotomayor is a Hispanic Uber Alles racist. Period.

Ginsburg is a Marxist-parallel liberal, if not an unconscious Marxist or closet Marxist. Period. She’s smart but her legal positions, comments and decision parallel almost 100% those of the Communist Party USA and its legal fronts of the present/past including their old front, the National Emergency Civil Liberties Committee (sound similar to something?); the National Lawyers Guild, now a ‘mixed marxist’, not “mixed martial” organization of communists/Marxists of all orientations with a large “democratic socialist” group, Castroites, Madurites, Sandinistas supporters, and Red Chinese kowtowers.

Elena Kagan. Perhaps a little more rational but still a hardcore leftist. Many of us more conservative Jews, esp. the men, feel that an ultra-liberal Jewish woman is a greater threat to our religion, America’s laws, and country, than out and out communists, irredentists, and racial extremists because they often have no idea how harmful their thinking/actions are to society. Some are just psychopaths, coo-coo puffs, insane, brain damaged or have a superiority complex that would shock Freud.

If leftist women want to call me a misogynist (whatever that is - I always thought is was a weird contortionist but what do I know), so be it. I’m not the one destroying our legal system, our schools, our religions, our patriotism, etc.

Just look at the white “liberal” female street freaks and thugs who are on the news every night rioting, cussing, throwing things including punches, and sounding like they are on an LSD/Ectasy/Meth-fed PMS trip.

And if you want another perfect example, try the anti-Judge Kavanaugh fraud, something Balsey-Ford, Rachel Madcow, Joy Behar, and Nancy “I’m a Catholic when convenient” Pelosi. Won’t ever try to classify Maxine “My hair is alive” Waters who is an a class of psychopaths all by herself.

I love women, in fact so much that I married one, my daughter is a woman, and my granddaughter is on her way to being a sane, educated, patriotic, firearms trained, AMERICAN WOMAN.

Time to armor-up for the “slings and arrows” the Left might send my way. As if they do, all I can say, like so many great philosophers before have said, “Up yours, Gomer”!

I’d expect 85% of felons to vote Democrat, with the other 15% being on talk radio telling us how felon-voting will benefit Republicans (something I heard a number of times about 10 years ago).

Good ruling by the court, as the felons haven’t technically completed their sentence. The split was almost predictable.

That said, once they do complete payment of any fine or associated parole or whatnot, they should be able to vote. I have no problem with that, even though they’ll most likely vote democrat. Once their ‘debt to society’ is paid, they should be just another citizen. I’d restore all their rights to them, which would include not only the right to vote, but also to avail themselves of the 2nd Amendment protections.
