Felons used to be excluded from voting. We should return to that SOP.
I always believe that if you have done your time, you get your rights back, including gun rights, if you are a felon, you need to still be in jail. If you are done, done with parole/probation and paid your fines you had to pay, you should get 100% of your rights back, including voting, including guns, including everything else.
Sentences are seldom served in full: some sentences are subject to the vagaries of politics—and the perp is exonerated. Sometimes, no sentence is given at all.
It helps to spend time in U.S. courtrooms. Amazing what passes for justice!
