Former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions lost the Republican nomination for his old Senate seat in Alabama to former college football coach Tommy Tuberville, likely ending a long political career with a bitter defeat egged on by President Donald Trump.
Tuberville, 65, beat Sessions in Tuesdays Republican runoff as Sessions fell short in his attempted comeback for a seat he held for two decades before resigning to become Trumps attorney general in 2017.
Familiar to Alabamians from his decade as Auburn Universitys head football coach, Tuberville is now positioned for a strong challenge against Democratic U.S. Sen. Doug Jones. With Alabamas strong GOP tilt, the seat is widely viewed as Republicans best chance for a pickup as they try to maintain their thin Senate majority amid Trumps lagging popularity nationally.

Get back under the porch Jeff Sessions ......
.
Sessions did what he was told, and he was told to run,
No mystery here.
Rod Rosensteins boy.
.
Seems to me that any eligible citizen who can read and understand the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES and abide by it’s rules would be 10 thousand times better than ANY OF THE GODDAMN LAWYERS that currently hold positions in any branch of government!
“The GOP open borders wing was supporting Sessions.”
Now I’ve heard it all. But if The Hill says it, it’s gotta be true. /sarc
Sessions was a lonely immigration hawk years before Trump ever dreamed of running. Session’s long time aid Stephen Miller is Trump’s point man on immigration.
Sessions was arguably the main GOP border patriot fighting Dubya’s attempt to ram through another amnesty. Back when opposing Bush’s lunatic immigration policy could get you banned here at FR. I’m sure it was even a bigger risk for an elected Republican.
Thanks for posting that. I like Mr. Magoo, although I think he wouldn’t fit in my militia. Might be more trouble than help.
From a NYTimes article on the race...
With almost 100 percent of the vote counted, Mr. Tuberville had 60.7 percent of the vote, to 39.3 percent for Mr. Sessions.
Thats a good and beating.
She dates and screws liberal men. She likes squishy RINOs. She needs to sell books. She’s an aging menopausal harpie.
I realize there’s a lot of bitterness toward Sessions for recusing himself and allowing the Russia collusion mess to go forward, but in terms of the Senate, it sounds like he’d have done more to support Trump’s agenda than Tuberville will. I hope this isn’t something Trump and we end up regretting.
Arnold was exactly what the “moderates” who controlled the Cal GOP wanted: an empty suit but with name recognition to pull in votes. And a puppet who would do their bidding.
I think you’re exactly right seeing a similarity in Tuberville.
Reagan established himself as a conservative activist when he backed Goldwater in 1964. Then as California Governor in 1968. Presidential primaries in 1968 and 1976.
Trump on the other hand came out of nowhere when he rode down the escalator in 2015. But unlike Arnold and Tuberville he’s not an empty suit and there was no one behind the scenes. Trump is sui generis.
I'm worried about that too. All it will take is ONE former player. I don't know anything about Tuberville... hope he can withstand the leftist media scrutiny that is undoubtedly coming.
Good riddance to Keebler Elf Jeff Sessions though!
This blow out is not just about Sessions. The primary was close. Sessions conduct as AG and Trumps endorsement of Tuberville were well known then. Something changed between the primary and the run off. GOP base outrage at Durham/Graham and GOP cowardice in the face of antifa riots fueled the anti-establishment vote for Tuberville, IMO.
Yup.
EXCELLENT1
I’m no Jeff Sessions fan, BUT, be careful what you cheer for.
and what the Hell would you suggest we do? Give Recusal Sessions back his job? No, it doesn’t work that way.
Sessions COSTS the taxpayers MILLIONS of DOLLARS and THREE YEARS of “investigating” NOTHING.
Sessions didn’t deserve the Seat, and we sure as HELL didn’t need him in it.
Woman scorned is the only one I can think of. Thanks
How long before Jeff Sessions’ book is released where he makes a couple sideways jabs at Trump and The View ladies welcomes him on their program?
