State lawmakers recently introduced a bill that would grant $1,200 stimulus checks to illegal immigrants, who were ineligible for the federal tax credits that most Massachusetts residents received.
There’s little question that illegal immigrants are struggling during this pandemic. They tend to hold the worst-paid and least-secure jobs in our society. And they’re frequently subject to abuse and discrimination by unscrupulous employers.
But rewarding them for violating our laws would be a terrible use of taxpayers’ money. It’d only encourage more illegal workers to pour into our state. Turning a blind eye to illegal immigration hurts not only American workers — who lose wages and job opportunities — but the immigrants themselves. It perpetuates a system of modern-day indentured servitude.
For everyone’s sake, it’s time for Massachusetts authorities to enforce the laws on the books.
Over the past decade, Massachusetts has experienced a surge in illegal immigration. In fact, the Bay State has seen the sharpest rise in illegal immigration in the country — an estimated 275,000 persons now reside in the state illegally. Unlawful workers comprise more than 5% of the state’s labor force.
This influx has devastated the state’s manual laborers and trades workers.
Unscrupulous employers hire illegal aliens for jobs that would otherwise be filled by citizens and lawful residents. And because these unauthorized workers lack the robust protections afforded to legal workers, employers can get away with paying sub-minimum wages and imposing substandard working conditions. About 37% of illegal aliens report being paid less than minimum wage.
This exploitation drives down wages across the board. Data from the Economic Policy Institute, a left-of-center think tank, show that in the last 10 years, Massachusetts, with its swelling unauthorized immigrant population, has suffered the sharpest decline in real wages for low-wage workers.

Everyone in Taxachusetts should apply for this money, forcing the state to spend time figuring out who is a citizen, legal immigrant or illegal. Then when the state begs ICE for help checking into their database, ICE should either refuse or take the list and then use it for a round up of those who are illegal.

Been saying this for years. When illegal aliens work for low wages, they undercut Americans. 30 years ago a man could make $15 working construction and make a decent living. Now that illegal aliens have taken over the construction sites, the pay is still $15/hr.
The politicians in Massachusetts are apparently as plain stupid and utterly insane as the ones in NY. Why on earth would a sane person send U.S. taxpayer government money to illegal criminal invaders? How can this possibly be constituitional? If this is the level of absolute stupidity that MA politicians have, what does that say about the idiots who voted all of this excement in? They have no respect for laws, unless it benefits the insane dummocrap/communist party.
