1-Year-Old Boy Shot To Death In Stroller Outside Brooklyn Playground: ‘When Does This Stop?’
cbs ^

Posted on 07/13/2020 1:55:33 PM PDT by MarvinStinson

A 1-year-old boy was shot to death overnight near a playground in Brooklyn.

Police said the child was sitting in a stroller with a group of people having a barbecue when gunfire erupted.

The boy was identified as 1-year-old Davell Gardner Jr.

Mayor Bill de Blasio held a moment of silence during Monday’s press briefing and said he was “heartbroken” over the child’s death.

“We’ve got to take resolve out of every situation like this. We can never give up,” he said. “We can never give up on our children, we can never give up on our families, we can never give up on our neighborhoods — no matter how tough it seems.”

“It means the whole community has to be involved,” he added. “It’s never just about police. It has to be community and police together.”

The shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. Sunday outside Raymond Bush Playground on Madison Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

Sources tell CBS2 police believe two men ambushed the victims and fired more than 20 rounds.

Police said the 1-year-old was shot in the stomach and died at the hospital.

Three adults were also wounded, but were expected to survive.

“You ain’t not gangsta. You a punk. You a punk, with a gun. You think is going to make you a man, but it ain’t,” resident Erica Ford said.

“This whole block should be out here, because veryone knows who’s doing what. They need to knock on those doors and say, listen, if you don’t do something about it, we are,” said Aaron Thomas of St. Albans, Queens.

The family of the 1-year-old lives in a shelter on Chester Street in Bed-Stuy. Throughout the day they sat out in front, grieving, hurt, and still trying to process what happened.

Community advocate Tony Herbert said he wants to see the NYPD’s Anti-Crime Unit back on the streets.

It was another violent weekend in New York City with 22 shootings and 28 victims.

Two hours earlier and nearly two miles away, another child was shot Sunday in Crown Heights.

Police said the 12-year-old boy was sitting in front of a home near Ralph Avenue and Prospect Place.

He was hospitalized in stable condition.

Not true. Its blacks dont matter to black criminals. These people are held hostage in their own houses for the same fear of these assholes that we as gun owner have. No one stands up to them but the cops. Take them out and its a criminal paradise that turns neighbors into animals.

We don’t have a gun problem in this country, we’ve got an habitual criminal problem!

We also have a problem with a political culture that effectively sides with some criminals if they’ve got certain attributes....

Without a police escort, you’re not going to get an ambulance or fire department when needed.

No thats incorrect

The black community makes zero peeps about blacks killed by other blacks. makes zero demands that blacks must change heir own community first since over 93% of black homicides are by other blacks.

Further extend this that black lives do not matter to other blacks in that blacks are highly way more likely to abort thier own kids, and further in that over 85% of black kids don’t grow up with a mom and a dad together. This is community-wide massive ‘normalcy’.

Black lives do not matter to other blacks, and they prove it across multiple categories.

Nope they only care when a non-black kills a black, often in valid self-defense.

Maybe the letters in that BLM poster you painted in front of Trump Tower needs to be in a larger font. Perhaps that's the problem.

Why did we think the gun violence issue wouldn’t be part of that?

Answer your own question, Jumaane. You were the one who said the protesters were “mostly peaceful”. Perhaps cutting the Billion in funding will help?

It will only get worse, and it has been planned, until the people have had enough. Only then will the Democrats ride in on their white horses and save the nation. Their plan and long desired dream will be to Federalize law enforcement, the take over AND “transformation” of all municipal police departments, which will operate under the FBI. Small police departments will be directed by close large cities. They will sell it and the people will go for it, including all current LE who will become federal employees. (This will take the power away from the states and gun confiscation will not be far behind.)

They will sell it like this:

Safety for cities as well as the police.
Consistent and professional training under the same organization.
Able to monitor criminals under one federal data base.
Monitor and prosecute hate crimes.
Stop the bleeding from retiring police and it will encourage new hires.

Guns are not violent. It’s the people who use them that are; I left several of my personal firearms home and none of them got up and shot the FedEx person who came to the door. I wasn’t even home at the time - that’s how much I trust them not to get violent.

It doesn’t stop. Crime is exactly what democrats want. That is what they vote for and that is what democrat politicians give them in order to keep the populace fearful and controlled. These murders are a feature of socialism not a bug.
