President Trump has commuted the sentence of Roger Stone. The timing, late on Friday, suggests internal embarrassment over the move, and we wish there were more.
The commutation is a move fully within the presidents powers and in keeping with the long-established pattern of presidents pardoning or commuting the sentences of associates caught up in special-counsel probes, although usually the associates arent as sleazy as Stone. Were a long way from George H. W. Bushs pardoning Cap Weinberger, the great Reagan-era defense official, who had been indicted for perjury and obstruction of justice in the Lawrence Walsh investigation.

It is another indication of his perverse, highly personalized view of the criminal-justice system and another reminder of the loathsome characters hes surrounded himself with his entire adult life.

1. An absurd NR editorial. The entire Mueller investigation was bogus, from his appointment to his outrageous report. Yes, Stone was convicted. Only convicted people receive commutations or pardons.— Mark R. Levin (@marklevinshow) July 13, 2020
2. And the jury foreman was a political hack who should never have sat in that courtroom. The Obama judge has been awful. And not just in Stones case. This commutation is defensible. It is merited for the sound reasons the president stated.— Mark R. Levin (@marklevinshow) July 13, 2020
3. Moreover, compared to the serious criminals and terrorists Obama and Clinton let free, the offenses in Stones case are small potatoes. Indeed, theyre rarely even charged. And Stone intends to appeal his conviction. As I said, an absurd NR editorial.https://t.co/9Lp3uSIwFU— Mark R. Levin (@marklevinshow) July 13, 2020
Unmitigated, Pinko Bull$hit.
Typical tripe and spoiled haggis from National Lampoon, oops, I shoulda said National Review.
That rag is a remedy for the Great Toilet Paper shortage of 2020.
I let them go when Buckley died.
whats indefensible is obama’s pardons of actual literal murdering terrorists his last week in office.
The National Review is now Never Trump traitors. William Buckley would be rolling in his grave. Except for VDH. That man is a hero.
Nor are they as sleazy as Kevin D Williamson, Jay Nordlinger, or Rich Lowry
.
I dropped my subscription, years ago, when the editors were gushing over Pierre Delicto, er, I mean “Myth Romney”.
If commutation can’t be used to right an obvious political prosecution, of what use is it?
“That rag is a remedy for the Great Toilet Paper shortage of 2020.”
No, due to pre-saturation with B.S., it lacks the absorbancy needed for toilet paper.
Same people who published the infamous “Against Trump” issue.
A few of those people did successfully remedy their rectal-cranial inversions.
Why don’t the just call themselves The New Republic now - they have the same initials so they wouldn’t have to change the letterheads or anything...
lol
I loved Jonah for decades.
What a shame.
Andrew Kavlan at the Daily Wire summed it up best: Roger Stone wont go to prison for covering up a crime that never happened during an investigation that never should have begun.
Same here. Such a shame,indeed.
NR went the way USNew&WR ... leftward. Let them go in late 80s, I think it was, could see the liberal snark and rot creeping in.
Clintons pardon of Susan Rosenberg, Weather Underground bomber and now on BLM fundraising arm, Now THAT that is something worthy of embarrassment and regret. Who would post this stupid article?
How many times did NR condemn 0bama for commuting the sentences of 1,927 people? Was there even one time?
His mother, she was a kick.
