Judge Orders Halt To Federal Executions That Were Set To Resume This Week

A federal judge in Washington has blocked federal executions scheduled for this week, citing concerns that the lethal injection protocol involved is "very likely to cause extreme pain and needless suffering."

Judge Tanya Chutkan said the last-minute ruling only hours before executions were set to resume for the first time in 17 years was "unfortunate," but she blamed the Justice Department for racing ahead before legal challenges had been fully aired.

The judge said the prison's plan to use a single drug, pentobarbital, could cause pulmonary edema, producing a sense that the condemned men were drowning. That would violate the ban on cruel and unusual punishment, she said. The federal government has appealed her ruling.

The decision came amid a wave of litigation involving family members of victims and religious advisers to the men on federal death row.

Lee, 47, had been sentenced to death after the brutal 1996 killings of three people in a robbery to finance a white supremacist cause. Relatives of his victims had petitioned a court to delay the execution, citing the difficulty of traveling to the federal death chamber in Terre Haute, Ind., during the coronavirus pandemic.

A lower court judge agreed, but the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit overruled the district judge and paved the way for the lethal injection process to proceed.

The appeals court panel said family members of his victims do not have a statutory right to attend the execution. The court wrote their claim "lacks any arguable legal basis and is therefore frivolous."

So switch to execution using nitrogen gas - painless, and it removes all the “cruel and unusual” excuses. I believe Oklahoma has already gone to nitrogen.

An eye for an eye. Do unto them as they did to their victims. Get a rope. Have them pay for their bullet. Whatever it takes. Too many are still wasting air after 30 years.

it says the families of the victims want it postponed because it’s hard to attend the execution because of the virus?

“...very likely to cause extreme pain and needless suffering...”

I wonder if the victims of these killers suffered at all??

Replace lethal injection with Nitrogen Asphyxiation.

Strap the condemned down
Apply a brain wave detector
ventilator mask and flow 99% pure nitrogen (welding gas and 78% of Earths atmosphere)
Wait for the brain wave monitor to go flat line

Condemned goes to sleep. Cheap, No mess, no fuss, no needles, no drug shortage, etc

Go down to the corner and get some Fentanyl laced heroin. Let them enjoy the ride.

The advertising quack who wearies
With tales of countless cures,
His teeth, I’ve enacted,
Shall all be extracted
By terrified amateurs.

The billiard sharp who any one catches,
His doom’s extremely hard -
He’s made to dwell -
In a dungeon cell
On a spot that’s always barred.

And there he plays extravagant matches
In fitless finger-stalls
On a cloth untrue
With a twisted cue
And elliptical billiard balls!

My object all sublime
I shall achieve in time -
To let the punishment fit the crime -
The punishment fit the crime;

She’s one step away from releasing killers because covid 19 is cruel and unusual punishment.

What drugs is this judge on? OK, lots of people die painfully from cancer, childbirth, ACTUAL DROWNING, etc. and we’re supposed to worry that some guy might feel like he’s drowning for a few minutes before entering either Heaven or Hell?

Here, let’s do a public hanging instead.

Just have them put on masks, sit some distance apart, then execute.

I swear, our nation is full of bed-wetters.

Why can't we just go with a guillotine or a bullet to the brain? This endless haranguing about drugs is just a litigation magnet to stop justice.

This is the world we now live in.

ClownBammy World - where one of his district judges can over-rule a Federal Circuit Court of Appeals.

I'm waiting for the day when a fanatical Democrat partisan ClownBammy district court "judge" over-rules the Supreme Court of the United States.

You KNOW it's coming...
