The Florida Department of Health on Sunday reported 15,299 new Wuhan coronavirus cases. This is the largest number of cases reported in a single day. The record was previously held by New York when they reported 12,274 new cases, TIME reported.
The reason Florida saw an uptick in positive cases is because they also had a record-breaking number of tests that were conducted.
The state currently has 269,811 positive infections. In total, 18,271 people were hospitalized as a result of the virus. As of now, 2,576,813 people have been tested for the Wuhan coronavirus. That puts the Sunshine State's infection rate at 10.5 percent.
The number of positive cases has gone up over the last month. Last month, less than five percent of coronavirus tests came back positive. More than 19 percent of tests were positive over the past week, The Hill reported.
According to Rep. Donna Shalala (D), places like Miami are on the verge of seeing a second lockdown.
"It's out of control across the state because our governor won't even tell everybody to wear masks. At least in Miami-Dade county, everyone must wear a mask when they're outside," she told CNN Saturday night. "This is an American tragedy."
The uptick in positive cases was expected as the state doubled its testing capacity. Previously, Florida was testing 25,000 people a day. That number has since doubled to 50,000 tests per day.
As of now, the state has no mask mandate. Walt Disney World also reopened on Saturday, despite concern from local public health care officials.
Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has said he wants schools to reopen next month, despite the rising number of infections.
“We know there are huge, huge costs for not providing the availability of in-person schooling,” he said. “The risk of corona, fortunately, for students is incredibly low.”
Nurses here in Miami I spoke with also say the testing is very inaccurate. A lot of false positives being reported.

yes, you’re right, but some of the most important life issues are being determined on the basis of these phony numbers...
Do they even follow up positive test with antibody test? If you get a positive test but end up without antibodies, were you actually infected? CDC is either completely incompetent or intentionally creating a panic.

A case is defined as someone who tests positive. In normal English, a case is someone who is SICK and under treatment for a disease. This misuse of the meaning of the word is intentional.
A cv19 death is defined as someone who dies, and who tested positive for cv19.
A hospitalization is defined as someone who is in the hospital, and who tests positive for cv19.
Also, the absolute number of “cases” is a useless number. A better number to give would be the ratio of “cases” to the population. I know that half of Americans give up reading at the word “ratio,” but too bad for them.
Actual drugs to help recovery would be helpful too. Remember we have Tamiflu now.

My husband and I were formally UNINVITED to a wedding this weekend !!! Our “not sick” 14-year-old daughter had been somewhere, about 10 days ago ~ where some other “not sick kids” later tested positive. Kids have been FaceTiming. No one is sick.
The parents of the groom insisted we not attend for fear we, the adults who have not been exposed, might infect the wedding couple ~ who are going to MEXICO on their honeymoon, and didn’t want them to get sick, from us, and have to quarantine on their honeymoon. The groom’s family got the skewed info from my own MSM/WHO/CDC- radicalized child who was in the wedding party !!!!

So, many of the "new cases" will really be old cases where the doc kept ordering tests to see if the infection was over yet.
I live in FL and only within the past two weeks have I heard of anyone in my circles that has gotten it. He is in late 50s and was over it in a few days with some aches and pains and sniffles...he did say he lost sense of taste then. He was over it within a week.
So I wouldn’t send a wedding gift either.. on the off-chance it’s “contaminated” :).
I wonder if a bunch of COVID-positive liberals think it’s fun to game the system and have organized to get tested once a day. Wouldn’t surprise me at all.
What it is showing is that there was a herd immunity functioning nicely before the stupid shutdown. These “new cases” are old cases.
