The Florida Department of Health on Sunday reported 15,299 new Wuhan coronavirus cases. This is the largest number of cases reported in a single day. The record was previously held by New York when they reported 12,274 new cases, TIME reported.
The reason Florida saw an uptick in positive cases is because they also had a record-breaking number of tests that were conducted.
The state currently has 269,811 positive infections. In total, 18,271 people were hospitalized as a result of the virus. As of now, 2,576,813 people have been tested for the Wuhan coronavirus. That puts the Sunshine State's infection rate at 10.5 percent.
The number of positive cases has gone up over the last month. Last month, less than five percent of coronavirus tests came back positive. More than 19 percent of tests were positive over the past week, The Hill reported.
According to Rep. Donna Shalala (D), places like Miami are on the verge of seeing a second lockdown.
"It's out of control across the state because our governor won't even tell everybody to wear masks. At least in Miami-Dade county, everyone must wear a mask when they're outside," she told CNN Saturday night. "This is an American tragedy."
The uptick in positive cases was expected as the state doubled its testing capacity. Previously, Florida was testing 25,000 people a day. That number has since doubled to 50,000 tests per day.
As of now, the state has no mask mandate. Walt Disney World also reopened on Saturday, despite concern from local public health care officials.
Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has said he wants schools to reopen next month, despite the rising number of infections.
“We know there are huge, huge costs for not providing the availability of in-person schooling,” he said. “The risk of corona, fortunately, for students is incredibly low.”
Per CDC definition.
Cases = positive case + probable case
Positive case: includes past exposure to any coronavirus (not Covid-19)
Do your homework.
That darned common cold. Maybe the Soviets weren’t lying after all, and a cold actually killed Premier Andropov...
Re: “How about a (number of cases)/(number of tests) graph?
I do not have a graph, but the raw data is available.
When massive USA nation wide testing started about 10 weeks ago, about 11% of tests were positive.
That number was most likely skewed by disproportionate testing in New York and New Jersey.
About three weeks ago, the positive percentage bottomed out at 8.0%.
Since then, the percentage has slowly climbed back up to 8.2%.
In the USA, it is not clear how many antibody tests are being done, what percent of antibody tests are positive, or if those antibody tests are being included in the number of confirmed infections.
Various European cities and regions have done at least a half dozen studies on their total infection rate.
The European total infection rate has been consistently between 11% and 15%.
My guess - the USA is in the 10% to 11% range.
That would give us a Case Fatality Rate of 0.4%.
However, the COVID death count is completely fraudulent when compared to the way we count influenza and common cold deaths.
My guess - the USA COVID CFR is in the 0.2% range if we use the influenza counting method.
2018 was our worst influenza year in the last decade.
In 2018, the USA influenza CFR was 0.14%.
YEP he IS & YEP they are AFRAID of Desantis.= Ron Desantis is NOT a swamp dweller.

Was ny highest positives before the first week of April? If so, that was in the era with multi targets for positives. Thosse test would have been true positives..
Since then only a single target results in posives. We saw a local jump in positivity as well.. but we are doing triple the tests and a single target wull be positive.
Comparing pre April numbers to now is misleading.
“Case” sounds really dreadful. So is everyone a “case”. Let's deescalate the language and use the proper term; “people” or “persons”.
Journalists who use the word “case” are just self important “dicks”.
So?
I see what you did there. Cute.
Simple solution; give the patients HCQ and Zinc prescription and send them home, but do it within 24 hours of symptoms.
Ill bet Florida broke the record for the most sunburn cases in a day, too.
This is ALL about the Republican Convention due in a few short weeks in Jacksonville.....
...
MS numbers been jumping too - Blame the Red Cross - they are using free testing as a way to get donors to flock to them. Even with appointments folks are stacked up for hours.
The common cold gives a false positive for the corny-virus.
This is about the election. Focus is on three red states Dems want to flip blue. Florida, Texas and Arizona. Florida data is being sensationalized the most to disrupt the RNC Convention.
It is all a fraud. 33 labs generating 100% positive results and about a dozen more that were generating 98-99% positive results; even on people that were not tested.
At least in Miami-Dade county, everyone must wear a mask when they’re outside,
Yet your numbers are “exploding”...what does that tell you?
Its a lot of smoke and mirrors still.
I would BET that they also broke a record for TESTING. If we were to start testing I.Q.s at the same rate that we are testing for the kong flu, we would suddenly be overrun with idiots.
I am in Miami right now. Talked to the nurse next door and several others. They say there absolutely are no new cases in the hospitals!! Hospitals are not overcrowded whatsoever. But they say the hospitals are counting everything as CV to get the money for cases reported. LIES, LIES AND MORE LIES!! Same in Texas where I live. Republicans suing Abbott for falsely reporting incorrect numbers. Hospitals across Texas reported they are not even close to their normal capacities and there is no uptick of CV cases. I AM SICK OF THIS BS AND THE AMERICAN PEOPLE FALLING FOR THESE LIES!! WAKE UP!!
