President Trump has denied a request from Minnesotas governor for money to rebuild parts of Minneapolis that were destroyed during the riots following the death of George Floyd.
The Governor is disappointed that the federal government declined his request for financial support, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz's office said in a statement. As we navigate one of the most difficult periods in our states history, we look for support from our federal government to help us through.
Walz, a Democrat, requested that Trump declare Minnesota a major disaster zone in a request to the Federal Emergency Management Agency on July 2 after more than 1,500 buildings were damaged by looting and rioting in the wake of Floyds death, totaling over $500 million in damages.
At least one Republican in the state had lobbied the Trump administration to reject the request, arguing that the states response to the unrest should be thoroughly reviewed.
Let the suckers who put them in office start paying the bill, and see if the Governor gets re-elected. What they had was an avoidable disaster.
It wasn't incompetence it was intentional...they allowed their cities to burn, to be looted and have their businesses destroyed... It's a control tactic.
Part of the problem is modern methods of risk management. If the locals had acted to minimize the damage, the local pols would have to alienate their base.
If the total damages were between one and five million, the first response would be to let the insurance companies handle it, then deduct the difference in business tax returns.
But, get the damage total up to half a billion with a B, and now you can try to get the feds to just print more money and then share with special interest groups.
It’s like paying people an extra $600 a week in unemployment benefits, so they don’t want to find a job.
Gov. Walz (D) helped make Minneapolis into a “major disaster” area long before the riots which he did noting to stop. The same for the Mayor of Minneapolis, a total leftist waste and coward.
Now let them pay the “piper” of repairing the city. They can best start by resigning now and disappearing into the mists of Democrat/marxist losers.
Believe me those business owners are NEVER going to rebuild there anyway especially now that their police department has been abolished, that area will stay that way and rot for decades to come!!
Minnesotas Governor and Minneapolis Mayor purposefully did nothing, and may have even ordered a stand down during riots. Now they want taxpayers to pay for the damage they more or less endorsed. No money for the Bernie Bros!!!!
Detroit 2. Good luck with your urban blight.
As soon as they did not send National Guard to help hold that police precinct, things went to hell, literally.
No tax dollars from me.
GOOD.
#2 it will only be a temporary tax.
When I lived in Minnesota the democrats the sales tax tax was 4.00% They raised it to 4.25% to pay for the dome stadium.
The democrats promised it would go back down.
The dome stadium is gone now and replaced with another stadium and the sales tax is 8.03%
The Gov sat on his butt and let the cities burn because he didn’t want to “offend” the rioters, looters, vandals, and arsonists. I guess he counts them as a big portion of the democrat voter base. I hope no aid goes to Portland, Seattle, Atlanta, NY City, or any other place where they let the mob run wild.
Hey, you let them do it.
Now you can pay for it.
The rioters owe the city reparations.
Hey Minnesota Guv! Go self flagellate you cave in. Play stupid communist games -— Win no prizes from The Donald.
The more statues you let the rioters tear down..... The less Federal dollars you get from Trump.
you broke it, you bought it ...
“Trump denies Minnesota governor’s request for $500M to repair damage from riots”
you don’t need federal help: you can pay for the damage from the money you save by defunding the police ...
That was The Daily News and it was in 1974. It was President Fords answer to NYC begging for federal aid.
