Lt. Gov Spencer Cox has bested Jon Huntsman, the former Utah governor who was seeking a third term, in the primary race for Utah governor.
Huntsman didnt indicate what would come next for him but said that public service is in our blood
Cox will face Democrat Chris Peterson, a University of Utah law professor, in the contest for a seat Democrats havent won in 40 years.
Cox has served at nearly every level of local government, before winning election to the Utah House. He was still a freshman state representative in 2013, when Herbert plucked him from relative obscurity to serve as his second-in-command.
Huntsman who, [was] twice elected as governor, had served different administrations as U.S. ambassador to Russia, China and Singapore. The Huntsman name has been revered because of the chemical business, cancer foundation and numerous philanthropic efforts
Throughout the race, Cox has portrayed the matchup between him and Huntsman as the biblical David vs. Goliath fight,
Cox built his lead with Wasatch Front counties and the more rural jurisdictions that he catered to during his John Deere-themed campaign, Huntsman was more popular in the states urban population centers.
Cox visited all 248 cities and towns in the state . He also won the nomination at the state Republican Party Convention and was the first candidate to gather the 28,000 signatures needed to earn a spot on the primary election ballot.
He also had to fend off criticisms from his opponents, who have made an issue of his decision to leave the state to work in the Obama administration.
Cox has brought in 36% of the vote to Huntsmans 35%.
The disease also took a personal toll on Huntsman, who tested positive for COVID-19

Yep. He sounds like another RINO to me.
Good, now find someone to take out Romney.
Apparently, knowing this was effectively the real Governor’s race, there was a large push for Democrats to change their registration to R so they could vote for Huntsman. Even with that, they failed, and Cox will easily win in November.
“Dont know anything about Cox, but Huntsman was definitely a Bush League Republican.”
This is a somewhat disturbing fact. Sounds like a Romney beat a Romney.
He also had to fend off criticisms from his opponents, who have made an issue of his decision to leave the state to work in the Obama administration.
Another Romney Republicrat bites the dust.
Huntsman is a piece of sh*t. I can’t stand his globalist anti-American bigotry.
What is it about mormons that once they get money they flip out and become more gay and globalist?
Choice between a Democrat or a Bush league Republican. I would either abstain from voting or reluctantly vote for the dem. The lessor of two evils is the dem because he doesn't pretend to be your friend
The Huntsmann daughter on the left, the other “conservative” (the other Meghan McCain) on the View, was dumber than a box of rocks and no conservative. I don’t think she could handle selling perfume at Macy’s makeup counter and only has a career because of her name.
She supposedly left the show to help her dad’s campaign.
the wall has nothing to do with missionary work. Mormon missionaries have proper credentials to live in the countries where they proselytize.
Good, and Jon, take your little girl Abbey and shove her up your sorry ass.
Very good. Hate Huntsman.
Oh, dear...Jon’s got a cold.
Looks like another Never-Trumper goes out to pasture.
In October 2015, Cox endorsed Marco Rubio for the Republican Party nomination in the 2016 presidential primary.[14] After Rubio withdrew, Cox endorsed Ted Cruz in March 2016.[15] Of Donald Trump, the front-runner, Cox said: “We care a lot about decorum. We care about our neighbors. We are a good, kind people. He does not represent neither goodness nor kindness.”[16] He said he would not support Trump if he wins the Republican nomination: “I think he’s disingenuous. I think he’s dangerous. I think he represents the worst of what our great country stands for.... I won’t vote for Hillary, but I won’t vote for Trump, either.”
Not really......
I am afraid only God will do that. Thankfully he was old when he was elected. Hell be in the seat until his last breath or he leaves. Utah seems to be a strange state.
The commies keep gaining!
This is good news. When a NeverTrumper is licked to the curb it is always news that starts a day off right.
My extreme lefty next door neighbor said that Huntsman is the only Republican she could ever see herself voting for.
“My extreme lefty next door neighbor said that Huntsman is the only Republican she could ever see herself voting for.”
Heard the same about McCain from my parents. Guess who they did NOT vote for in 2008, when they had the chance. They effectively troll our side that way, without even knowing it, in the case of my parents (and perhaps your neighbor too).
