Research planned to investigate alleged racial profiling by German police forces has been canceled, an Interior Ministry spokesman said on Sunday.
According to the Zeit Online news portal, the ministry decided to drop the study, which was in the conceptual development stage, and cited Interior Minister Horst Seehofer as saying there is no need.
The term racial profiling indicates increased targeting of ethnic minorities, most commonly by law enforcement agencies. [ ]
On Sunday, a spokesperson for the Justice Ministry refused to comment on the media report but referred to an earlier statement, which said that the study is an important step to understand the phenomenon and discuss possible countermeasures.
According to Zeit Online, Seehofer believes that as racial profiling by the federal police is prohibited, it does not have to be separately examined. Instead, stop-and-search checks must be carried out without discrimination, the spokesperson said.
The spokesman insisted that incidents of racial profiling in Germany are exceptional cases.
The study on racial profiling was demanded by Saskia Esken, one of the co-leaders of the center-left SPD, who claimed there was latent racism in the ranks of the security forces.
Tens of thousands of protesters stood up around the world because the violent death of George Floyd [in the US] during a police operation was not an isolated case, Esken told the Funke Mediengruppe in an interview last month. German protesters are, meanwhile, interested in the situation on their own doorstep.

Ignore Mohammed bin Mohammed over there with the scimitar screaming “Allahu Akhbar!”, and go get that weiss kleine kinder!
TRANSLATION: “We weren’t getting the results we wanted.”
Bingo
Strangely, those countries that don't let masses of Third-Worlders onto their soil in the first place never get accused of "racial profiling," etc. I wonder how that works?
Regards,
Just like the study that was done of alleged racial profiling incidents involving the New Jersey State Patrol years ago. An independent analysis by two university professors discovered that while yes, black drivers on the New Jersey turnpike were stopped by police more often than white drivers, they were also speeding at much higher rates than whites, and were especially disproportionately represented in the group of those exceeding the speed limit by more than 25 mph. They were stopped more often because they were speeding more often.
Also, when New Jersey state troopers backed off on stopping black motorists for speeding, crime in nearby Patterson went up significantly. The connection there is obvious.
This is typical of Europe - simply deny the problem exists when it is more that clear that it does indeed exist.
Of course this is the same country that actively sponsored pedophilia for over 30 years and to this day refuses to “out” the perpetrators.
Are you saying that racial profiling is a problem in Germany? I don’t know much about the country
Most European countries with the possible exception of England.
I see it daily in Switzerland and hear about it a lot from my friends in Germany and elsewhere.
It is not only a “black” problem either ...
