Attorney Alan Dershowitz urged “everyone” to “keep an open mind” about convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s cohort Ghislaine Maxwell after the FBI arrested her Thursday.
Dershowitz, who has acted as an attorney for notable figures including both President Donald Trump and Epstein himself, spoke out in defense of Maxwell in a Friday op-ed for The Spectator.
Dershowitz formerly helped negotiate a plea deal that gave federal immunity to Epstein and his co-conspirators in 2008, requiring Epstein to serve 13 months in jail in Palm Beach with practically daily work release.
The former Epstein attorney has been accused of sexual abuse by Virginia Giuffre and Sarah Ransome in civil lawsuits that allege Dershowitz had sex with them through Epstein when they were teenagers. Dershowitz denies that he did so and sued Guiffre for defamation.
“Everyone should keep an open mind about Maxwell as they should about others who have been accused by Epstein’s alleged victims,” Dershowitz wrote in his American Spectator op-ed.
He continued: “The truth-testing mechanisms of cross-examination and confrontation must be employed against these witnesses, as they are against other accusers. Only after a full trial, in which both sides are presented should reasonable people come to conclusions about Ghislaine Maxwell.”
A grand jury indicted Maxwell on charges of conspiracy to entice minors to engage in illegal sex acts, conspiracy to transport minors to these illegal sex acts, transportation of a minor to engage in illegal sex acts, and perjury.
The victims were as young as 14 years old, the indictment said, noting that both Maxwell and Epstein knew that certain victims were minors.

If Jerry Springer started going around in public saying he admires Trump's leadership and hopes Trump gets re-elected in November, there would be oodles of FReepers retroactively claiming Springer is an "old fashioned, patriotic, honorable Democrat" and saying The Jerry Springer Show is a great example of "conservative, pro-family entertainment"

“Epstein’s butler testified under oath that Dershowitz was present when underage girls were around, according to court filings.
In an interview via Skype, Dershowitz insisted he never saw an underage girl at Epstein’s house, but was worked on by an older lady. Huh?
“Were there young women in another part of the house giving massages when I wasn’t around? I have no idea of that,” he said.
“I kept my underwear on during the massage,” Dershowitz went on to stammer. “I don’t like massages particularly.”
“Axios’ Jonathan Swan was part of Bret Baier’s All-Star Panel on Fox News Tuesday to discuss Jeffrey Epstein and the whole weird, sick story of his penchant for teenage girls, when he dropped a strange and silly tidbit about Alan Dershowitz.
“I interviewed Alan Dershowitz about this was representing Jeffrey Epstein and says he’s still advising him,” Swan told the panel. “Alan Dershowitz told me he got a massage at Epstein’s house but he clarified — and this is a direct quote — “from an old, old Russian.” He said he saw no one underage.” “

Jeremy Irons is the creepy count, IIRC.
Movies have no bearing on actual truth, and this one goes out of its way to leave conclusions hanging. But Irons handles the Count's part very well.
Why would Alan Dershowitz say this?
Is he also a prime candidate for a cell in federal prison?

Dershowitz has no credibility.
Dershowitz told the New York Daily News, “I never got a massage from anybody. It’s made up out of whole cloth.” Later he told the Palm Beach Daily News, he received one massage at Epstein’s house “from a woman in her 40s. I think her name was Olga.” I called my wife after getting the massage. It was an unpleasant experience. “I kept my underwear on during the massage.”
I was on the island in the Caribbean with my wife and daughter . . . we were all together and my wife and daughter were never separated from me for the entire 24 hours I was there.
Dershowitz was asked by FOX News if he ever traveled to St. James Island. He responded, “With my wife when the island first opened. There were no young women or anybody on the island except a woman in her 30s and somebody who was taking care of the house. That was the only time I was ever there. I never flew on his plane there. I never participated in any eh eh any activities on the island or anywhere else with Jeffrey. Never, never, never, under any circumstances.” However flight logs of Epstein’s private jet show Dershowitz flew on it at least four times.
Why would Dershowitz make such a statement unless he knows he has
done some very bad and illegal thing that will be coming out?
Talk about a conflict of interest and trying to tilt the jury’s selection and influence of the judges....
If (for instance) some crazy Neo-Nazi was arrested for firebombing a synagogue, do you really think Alan Dershowitz would calmly say "Let's not jump to conclusions. Everyone's innocent until proven guilty in America." I doubt it. Similarly, if instead of Epstein's friends being accused of running an underage pimping operation it were Bill and Hillary Clinton, would Red Monkey also righteously state that they're innocent until proven guilty? Probably not.
That's why both his statements and Dershowitz's are a bunch of self-serving tripe masquerading as dispassionate concern for fair trial.

I think the she may not have run at all. The feds May have had her in hiding since the day Epstein was arrested.

It is an uncomfortable but fair truth that ALL accused are entitled to a vigorous defense. I could never be a defense attorney; I’d feel like a liar and a fraud, defending people I knew to be guilty.
Something tells me Dershowitz is biting his nails as of late.
