House Democrats, Working With Liz Cheney, Restrict Trump’s Planned Withdrawal of Troops From Afghanistan and Germany

THE U.S. MILITARY HAS BEEN fighting in Afghanistan for almost nineteen years. House Democrats, working in tandem with key pro-war GOP lawmakers such as Rep. Liz Cheney, are ensuring that continues.

Last night, the House Armed Services Committee voted overwhelmingly in favor of an amendment — jointly sponsored by Democratic Congressman Jason Crow of Colorado and Congresswoman Cheney of Wyoming — prohibiting the expenditure of monies to reduce the number of U.S. troops deployed in Afghanistan below 8,000 without a series of conditions first being met.

The imposed conditions are by no means trivial: for these troop reductions from Afghanistan to be allowed, the Defense Department must be able to certify, among other things, that leaving Afghanistan “will not increase the risk for the expansion of existing or formation of new terrorist safe havens inside Afghanistan” and “will not compromise or otherwise negatively affect the ongoing United States counter terrorism mission against the Islamic State, al Qaeda, and associated forces.”

“The Dems are pro-war as long as it hurts Trump.”

Not just Trump. They went after Bush Sr. for the Gulf war and the Somalia invasion, both with the UN, yet applauded Clinton for his hitting an aspirin factory in the Sudan that was doing nothing, went after Bush Jr, for his taking out Hussein, but ignored the escalation of combat in Afghanistan accomplished by Obama. Now Trump wants to get away from the problem in Afghanistan, which Obama had promised to do and one he mainly surged, and they are raising $kit. It has nothing to do with war, it is nothing but politics and always has been.

First, the House won’t restrict anything.

Second, I heard Trump say the troops would be reassigned to Poland, close to Russia.

At this point, screw the Cheneys.

I’m sorry, but we really need to leave Afghanistan. We aren’t going to make things better, no longer how long we stay there. We will accomplish nothing lasting. Others have tried before. Most left long before staying there 18 years.

The Afghans can be wonderful people. Just don’t try moving in with them. They really don’t lie it. Their national sport is buzkashi. It’s like polo, except the ‘ball’ is a goat carcass. Players try to grab the goat and carry it across the goal line. The opposite team try to stop them. Knives have now been outlawed, but whips are still allowed. Think we’re going to make them a modern nation?

Yeah i know. Don’t worry I trigger plenty of liberals on Twitter when i pointed out that Obama created the mess in Libya by killing Gadaffi . Obama is plain evil he killed a fellow head of state.

Defense contractors stock price and Cheney’s getting obscenely rich?

Huge success for them.

The Dems are pro war - period.

They prefer to run silent wars (Syria) and let the Republican’s run the public wars. (Iraq)

The taliban are the de facto rulers of Afghanistan . they have the people’s support while the coalition forces are seen as occupiers who they must resist.

Osama Bin Laden’s beef against USA was based on presence of American troops in Arabia. At one time we had 900 foreign military installations. It is one thing to fight a war against aggressors, but why keep troops in Germany and S.Korea decades after the wars are over? Exactly what is the Return on the costly investment? Both Germany and S.Korea can well afford to spend on their own defense for many decades. That money should be used to modernize infra-structure here.

Not going to happen.

Trump tried to close a base in Germany and Liz Cheney went mental: wrote letters and briefed journalists .

Trump needs to stand up to them
