MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) Myrtle Beach City Council has approved a mandate requiring face masks to be worn in certain public places.
The order starts at 11:59 p.m. Thursday, July 2, and will remain in effect for 67 days, which is through Labor Day, or until rescinded, or until the expiration of the declaration of a civil emergency.
According to the executive order, individuals would be required to wear the face coverings, defined as a uniform piece of cloth, fabric, or other material that securely covers a persons nose and mouth and remains affixed in place without the use of ones hands, when inside retail establishments and food service establishments, and the enclosed common areas of overnight accommodations establishments.
Retail establishments are listed as businesses like grocery stores, convenience stores, commercial stores, pharmacies, and barbershops and hair salons, among others.
Food service establishments encompass any business that sells prepared food on a dine-in, delivery, carry-out or drive-through basis, according to the order.
Overnight accommodations establishments are hotels, motels, condos, rental properties and private campgrounds.
Staff at those businesses will also be required to wear face masks while working in areas open to the general public and in areas where social distancing among employees cannot be observed.
Any person in violation will be guilty of a civil infraction punishable by a penalty of not more than $100.
The decision comes as COVID-19 cases continue to rise across the Grand Strand and throughout the state.
Several cities across the Palmetto State have passed mandates requiring face masks, including North Myrtle Beach on Tuesday.
Lakeland, FL also did this today.
So you have to wear the mask while dining in during the act of eating? I guess that makes as much sense as the ones that say you have to wear it while not eating. Like you would be less contagious while eating.
All craziness.
There is no Science supporting the 6 ft. rule.
Well, let’s see, we tried shelter in place, that works, but kills the economy. Masks may or may not work, but at least the economy can somewhat keep rolling. We’re starting to see some rational response in targeting specific areas rather than whole states, so overall, I’d call it more of a win than a loss for personal liberty.
What’s your solution to Kung-Flu? Hold COVID parties and just get it over with (with a good chance of re-infection later) or...?
Personally, I think the masks are just a patch-over. It slows the spread, it doesn’t eliminate it. But it beats statewide or national lock downs.
so I ma waiting for the first person to sue a business . I cannot wear a mask for my asthma, but if a business denies me then I will sue since my condition is under the ADA
Masks do not slow the spread and pretty much are worthless.
Most people don’t wear them correctly, and they are not designed to filter everything. Masks can filter about 5 microns, the Covid-19 is about .1 to .2 Microns, meaning it will go through a mask.
Don’t complain about drops in revenue. Don’t ask for bailouts.
Have a vacation scheduled for mid September in Myrtle Beach. If this gets extended I’m cancelling. Say good bye to your tourist dollars!!
Ooh, look, someone trying to use science to establish how something works!
Yes, the virus will easily get through the mask. However, the virus doesn’t travel alone, it travels along with particles from a sneeze or a cough (or tears...) Masks worn over the face reduce the spread of those aerosols.
The mask will not prevent you from getting COVID, it is there to help prevent the spread of COVID. Safety glasses (or even normal glasses) can also reduce exposure to aerosols (the virus can spread through entry through the tissue around the eyes.)
Washing hands won’t prevent you from getting COVID, but can help you spreading it to yourself from touching contaminated surfaces and then touching ears, nose, mouth, or eyes and transferring the virus to yourself.
Good luck with your suit... There’s thousands of them right now, and haven’t heard of a single one get past the filing stage. Though I really am curious, since odds are that if it did make it to court, the jury would all be wearing masks, how do you plan on convincing them to award you anything?
And what’s your planned defense for violating the stay at home order for those with compromised immunity and lung issues?
‘Lakeland, FL also did this today.’
and President Trump announces he’s ‘all in for the masks’, so I expect that we’ll have have a lot of new mask supporters on this forum...
everybody and his grandma (the ones we didn’t kill by living our lives in a normal fashion) knows the damn things are merely virtue signalers, worn to appease suburban women, but now we’re supposed to be ‘all in for them...’
