MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) Myrtle Beach City Council has approved a mandate requiring face masks to be worn in certain public places.
The order starts at 11:59 p.m. Thursday, July 2, and will remain in effect for 67 days, which is through Labor Day, or until rescinded, or until the expiration of the declaration of a civil emergency.
According to the executive order, individuals would be required to wear the face coverings, defined as a uniform piece of cloth, fabric, or other material that securely covers a persons nose and mouth and remains affixed in place without the use of ones hands, when inside retail establishments and food service establishments, and the enclosed common areas of overnight accommodations establishments.
Retail establishments are listed as businesses like grocery stores, convenience stores, commercial stores, pharmacies, and barbershops and hair salons, among others.
Food service establishments encompass any business that sells prepared food on a dine-in, delivery, carry-out or drive-through basis, according to the order.
Overnight accommodations establishments are hotels, motels, condos, rental properties and private campgrounds.
Staff at those businesses will also be required to wear face masks while working in areas open to the general public and in areas where social distancing among employees cannot be observed.
Any person in violation will be guilty of a civil infraction punishable by a penalty of not more than $100.
The decision comes as COVID-19 cases continue to rise across the Grand Strand and throughout the state.
Several cities across the Palmetto State have passed mandates requiring face masks, including North Myrtle Beach on Tuesday.
‘I wonder if you have the same animus against people who wear seat belts and motorcycle helmets.’
terrible analogy, FRiend...seat belts and helmets are proven deterrents to traumatic injuries occurring in calamitous situations; a face mask may protect you from droplets from an infected person if that person happens to cough or sneeze while being with couple of feet of you...
When do they outlaw protests?
‘havent we done a nice job of making ourselves of emasculating ourselves...’
time for me to speak in plain English...havent we done a nice job of emasculating ourselves...
Well under the ADA and my doctor there would be a decent case
“Whats your solution to Kung-Flu?”
I don’t go where people are close to each other, and I especially avoid places where businesses require masks.
If you need a mask, you are in more danger than elsewhere, and mask may lower your chances but don’t take the chances away.
It's all a bunch of lies. Read the studies. The masks do nothing to stop this virus.
Every mask edict I seen has a list of exceptions that allow one to not wear mask.
If you have a behavioral or medical problem when wearing a mask, you are excepted. And, you can’t be asked to explain the problem under Hippa.
So, the mask requirements...aren’t requirements.
The Science is Conclusive: Masks and Respirators do NOT Prevent Transmission of Viruses
exactly. and so far no one has refused me , but some of the mayors seem to think they give an order and now it is a law.
You have my best wishes given your situation.
The good news is, Mayors and Governors who have pushed too far have been losing in court.
Notice no one ever wants to mandate gloves, which might do as much or more as masks to stop infection.
Masks, and only masks.
Nudists beaches require masks?
Speaking of a moronic false dichotomy, how about the idea that we are told we must pretend we are sick when the chances are very small that we are, but you can actually BE sick with CV19 and go anywhere you want as long as you have a mostly useless mask on.
Lunacy.
Agreed...I’ve never been more disappointed in my fellow citizens than I am watching people bend the knee and comply with this insanity. And I’ve been pretty disappointed in the past! lol
I wonder if you have the same animus against people who wear seat belts and motorcycle helmets. I happen to like being alive. Is that a crime against liberty now?
Animus? Really? You define my liberty and proclaim me mean to suggest otherwise?
A man who has nothing which he is willing to fight for, nothing which he cares about more than he does about his personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. -- John Stuart Mill, writing on the U.S. Civil War in 1862
you are aware that well over 60% of these 6 feet under occurrences are among the 70+ age group
Which means that 40% aren't, presumably.
Im sure youre also aware that during this current craze is being driven, not by deaths or hospitalizations, which would in fact signal a problem, but by cases...cases among younger people, who have basically zero chance of dying
You are correct that the current surge is mostly among young people who chose not to practice social distancing and that that group has a very small probability of dying. But youth and health are no guarantee of staying out of the hospital if you get CV. I know a guy who had it. Fit, healthy guy with no pre-existing conditions, not in the high-risk age group. He was in the hospital for 2 weeks and thought he was going to die. 2 months later he's still not feeling 100%. There is also the risk of permanent lung damage and blood clots among CV survivors. The blood clots are likely related to cytokine storms, which are more common in young people with a strong immune system. The working-age population can't contribute as much to the economy if they have permanent lung damage and premature strokes.

Scientists also believe some people may be genetically more susceptible to the CV than others, which might explain the rare cases of healthy young people dying from CV.

currently, we are not allowed to be near the compromised individuals; your defense of the healthy people walking around wearing masks to protect other healthy people is absurd
The problem is with only 10% of the US population tested we don't know who's healthy and who's not. I'm sure you are aware that asymptomatic carriers exist. It would be great if all CV-positive people glowed bright orange so that CV-negative people could avoid them. Until that happens, I will continue taking precautions for my health and for that of my family. And for that I refuse to apologize.

At the beginning of this I wore one and problems breathing. After a couple of days I had an asthma attack and was rushed to the hospital as I could not get enough air in my lungs.
For all these nuts out there who demand others wear a mask then it shows how ignorant they are when they demand something from someone who they do not know anything about
Animus? Really? You define my liberty and proclaim me mean to suggest otherwise?
Liberty does not extend to a license to endanger others' lives. If it did, drunk driving would be legal. Your right to extend your fist ends where my nose begins.
There are things I value more than my own life. The profit margins of Wall Street bigwigs ain't one of them.
Gloves only would work if every person did the necessary training to use them properly.
As it is now, every time I see someone wearing gloves, I cringe. I watch waitresses bussing someone else’s table and coming grabbing my glass by the rim to bring to me...ugh.
You assume not wearing a mask is deadly when the exact opposite may be true.
True, if you already have the virus wearing a mask won't magically cure you of it. It will, however, stop most of your viral transmission to others.

I'm pretty sure all of us here want President Trump to win a second term. It will be a lot easier to accomplish that if the cases remain low and there is no second wave of CV/lockdowns.
Wow, that ‘striking experiment’ is amazing.
I wonder if there are any clinical studies showing that masks are useless for preventing viral transmission...
Hmm...here’s one. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19216002
But one might not be enough. What to do, what to do...
Oh, wait, here’s another: https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/epidemiology-and-infection/article/face-masks-to-prevent-transmission-of-influenza-virus-a-systematic-review/64D368496EBDE0AFCC6639CCC9D8BC05
But can two clincal studies really be enough? If only there were three...wow, look here’s another! https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.1111/j.1750-2659.2011.00307.x
Surely, there can’t be more than three...ZOMG!!!@@!!
https://www.cmaj.ca/content/188/8/567
Of course, there would never be more than 4 studies showing this, right? OOPS!! https://academic.oup.com/cid/article/65/11/1934/4068747
But it’s still not settled, right? Not until there are at least five, right? Wow, there are!!! https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.1111/jebm.12381
But yeah, FastCompany did a completely misleading ‘experiment’ that doesn’t even address viral spread and did a story on it, so at least you have that, right?
