Vladimir Putin is heading for victory in a referendum that could extend his rule until 2036 as Russia enters its final day of voting today. The Kremlin strongman would normally reach his term limit in 2024, but voters are set to back a plan to reset his tally to zero and allow him to run for two more terms. The package of constitutional changes would also increase Putin's powers to dissolve parliament and expand his influence over courts and prosecutors.

DjT shouldn’t count on blind support from Vlad, but cooperation rather than alienation will be very helpful against the true menace just south and east of Russia.
I’ve always liked the Russian peoples, while wary of some the communist czars, but don’t we read of some religious freedoms growing there ?
You can’t admire modern Russian politics given the constant manipulations going on behind the scenes, as well as more overt acts like bumping off journalists who get too close to the truth, but it’s in a better place than most times in its history. Putin is no close friend of liberty, but he’s not sadistic or motivated by an insane, anti-human ideology.
"Our land is great and rich, but theres no order in it. Come rule and reign over us."
--The Russian Primary Chronicle (Early 12th Century)
I spent six weeks in St. Petersburg on a work assignment in 2010. There were a couple things that surprised me about the Russians I spoke with about politics.
First was they did not seem hesitant in the least to talk about politics or even criticize their government, even more so than Americans in some regards as most of us are a bit hesitant to talk politics in a business setting. This surprised me because I figured there would sort of a holdover from the Soviet Years where people would be looking over their shoulder and afraid to say much. But that did not seem to be true at all, if anything its just the opposite.
Second, they genuinely like Putin. Even the ones that criticized things he, or the Russian government, had done, had nothing but praise for Putin as a person. I heard the same things over and over, "Putin is strong." "Nobody pushes him around" "He gets things done." "He's made other nations respect Russia again."
The Democrats are just jealous they haven’t gotten away with it yet.
Would you recommend visiting Russia on a trip? I always wanted to go there.
Lost in the background clutter is the fact......... Vladimir Putin saved Mother Russia from dying
His primary task was to save Mother Russia
Sort of the same things we say about Trump
Censorship in modern Russia is very selective. The average man is more or less free to criticize the government. The media is another story. Some criticism is allowed in some areas, but in the important areas, it’s Kremlin propaganda.
And yes, Russians mostly do like Putin. He’s seen as having saved Russia.
“Russia is a backward nation”
No they are not. They have the largest landmass of any country on earth and are one of the most advanced military powers on the planet. Did I mention, next to the U.S., they have one of the largest nuclear arsenals in the world? Why heck, we even paid them to put OUR people into space because we couldn’t. None of that seems backward to me.
If the Russian people want someone like Putin, who has helped bring them back from their troubles, then that is their choice. We should have learned our lesson about meddling in other countries by now. I’m not sure we have the perfect record (Bush & Obamanation).
I’m not sure I call that backward.
“Russia should have elections like us with the true power not being elected. We like front men.”
Russia is going back to communism. American and Western Europe is now prime for the overthrow.
Nor I.
Looks like we'll get there first.
If anything, Russia is going back to Tsarism, not Communism.
I could not care less about how other people are governed.
The war is here.
If it wasn’t for Donald Trump I’d be saying we live in a glass house. The Uni-party is strong.
Now if the Stars and Bars were flying in place of that multi-colored rag then Putin might have to worry!
The fact they have a large landmass and nuclear weapons has no relevancy. The country lacks very basic infra structure like roads and they can’t make pantyhose.
Economically they rank like Mexico. Their population number is also like Mexico. Unlike China or Mexico, Russia has no exports other than weapons and oil that are worth a damn and can be sold in international trade.
As recently as ten years ago, Moldavian Christians imorted North Carolina panty hose to be sold in Russia at a tremendous profit
The only thing Putin saved Russia from is being a democracy.
As for the economy in Russia, barrel of oil went from $20 in Jan 1999 to $110 in May 2014.
Your simplistic reasoning is ignorance
