Former National Security Adviser John Bolton criticized on Sunday President Trumps response to reports that Russian military operatives offered bounties to Afghan militants to kill U.S. troops saying Trumps decision-making is not connected to reality and bashing the president for denying that he was aware of the bounties.
The comments by Bolton, whose upcoming memoir about his time in the Trump White House has drawn the ire of the president, come as lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are calling on action to be taken against Moscow following reports in the New York Times that a Russian spy unit paid the Taliban to attack U.S. troops stationed in Afghanistan.
Trump sent out a tweet early Sunday morning denying that he had ever been briefed about the Russian bounties and questioning the veracity of the New York Times reporting.
This is the problem with the president's decision-making, Bolton said Sunday on CNNs State of the Union. It's not connected to reality, its connected to his personal position.
Bolton added that if Trump had actually not been informed about the alleged bounties on U.S. troops, then he should have had the director of national intelligence report to him on the matter. Former Rep. John Ratcliffe, R-Texas, was recently confirmed as Trumps new DNI and said over the weekend that he never briefed the president on the issue.
If the president hadn't heard, presumably, he should have called up the DNI, and asked, Bolton said. That in and of itself is disturbing.
The New York Times first reported that American intelligence officials have determined a Russian military unit secretly offered bounties to Taliban-linked militants for killing coalition forces, including targeting American troops. The Wall Street Journal and Washington Post also reported on the Kremlin's effort to orchestrate attacks on Western troops.

Should any of this be in the newspaper to start with? That’s what tells me it’s fake news.
Bolton is showing he is an idiot.

1. All that crap from Bolton when (a) ALL that is known is a “journalists” report from anonymous sources, and (b) no intelligence officials have said the “intel” was vetted by the intelligence community.
2. (a) Bolton and no one else has any knowledge that Trump did not ask his national security council to look into the matter, after he heard the news reports about it, and (b) neither Trump nor his national security council owe Bolton or any journalists an answer to that.
Everyone is trying to make an issue of a “smoking gun” that is (a) not smoking and (b) not proven to be a gun (not proven to be truly vetted intelligence).
Bolton is toilet scum, just as all neocons are.
That includes Liz Cheney.
Is it just me or does anyone else think that Bolton has been reduced to just tossing things out in hope someone will listen to him?
If it is neither verifiable nor credible, why should ANYTHING “obviously” have “some basis”???
This whole thing stinks of refried Russian bullshit.
Now they attack Trump from the Right.
Did they find those two whores pissing yet?
Mueller is a liar, Obama and Biden were corrupt and Comey was a criminal lackey who framed innocent people.
——Now they attack Trump from the Right.-—I would that John
Bolton is merely sour grapes.
He was fired and can’t stand it.
Bolton doesn’t count
Bolton should move to the very top of the list.
Your second point does not follow the first.
Let's say you told my boss that I was stealing from the cash box. The fact that the person who keeps the cash box then goes to the boss and says that no money is missing does not mean that your report has some basis.
After it was revealed in the NYT.
........
After a nonsense was revealed in the NYT. No need to take a nonsense seriously.
So if the news reported on it it must be true. Is that what passes for logic these days?
Basis? Lol. You can claim the dirty dossier about Trump (cooked up by that ex-MI6 employee) had some basis.
bolton is such a feckless warmonger loser. Did he personally ever serve in the US military? No. What a worthless putz.
Basis? Lol. You can claim the dirty dossier about Trump (cooked up by that ex-MI6 employee) had some basis.
It is openly known that Iran paid bounties and maybe still does. That didn’t seem to interfere with Obama’s Iran deal.
So Bolts is fine helping the rats win after spending years sounding the alarm that they were destroying the country. A traitor of the worst kind.
They are pulling out everything under the kitchen sink to torpedo a Trump re-election
Theyre trying to stop Trump from withdrawing troops from Afghanistan. Neocons in the GOP are very opposed to that
It’s as if every true but hidden story about Obama is being brought back out and having Trump’s name replace Obama’s.
The New York Times Reported...
I won’t bother with the rhetorical question.
I'd imagine you got jumped on enough for this statement.
Press Sec. Kayleigh McEnany said the White House is going to brief Congress on the issue.
And if you actually read what the press secretary said, they are inviting congress to attend a briefing on the issue. Not they're going to brief the intelligence committee and couldn't name anyone specific who'd be attending the briefing.
In other words, you can come and find out that there's no basis to the New York Times report, if anyone cares to bother showing up for a wasted hour.
