The suspect arrested in the shooting death of a man during a Louisville protest over the police killing of Breonna Taylor had taken part in demonstrations but was disruptive and had been asked by other protesters to leave, authorities and protesters said Sunday.
The man, identified by an arrest citation as Steven Nelson Lopez, was hospitalized and being interviewed by homicide investigators about the shooting that happened late Saturday, interim Louisville Police Chief Robert Schroeder said at a news conference.
Lopez was wounded in the leg by gunfire from bystanders at the park who were defending themselves, the arrest citation said. He has been charged with murder and wanton endangerment.
Tyler Charles Gerth, 27, of Louisville, died after being shot at Jefferson Square Park in downtown Louisville, authorities said. The Courier Journal reported that Gerth was an avid photographer and a vocal supporter of the ongoing protests whose godfather is a columnist at the newspaper.

The story disappears.
Quite a bit of shootings going on at these protests.
And even shootouts :)
I’m in Brooklyn quite a bit and like I said I don’t care if they march right past me. And now 4 marches have.
Maybe I should be more wary.
I got the feeling things could turn violent very quickly
Steven Nelson Lopez?!? Sounds like one of them there white hispanics!!!.
Also one of the other cops at the Floyd scene was black.
So is Floyd still alive. I’m not sure where that rumor got started.
Even the best parody writer can't make this stuff up.
Are you writing for CBS.com now?
Perp photo and victim. Another story here.

Doesn’t fit the ‘Right wing extremist’ narrative.
Smile
“Court records show he was one of 17 protesters arrested on June 17, and a Courier Journal photographer captured his arrest that day in a photo. He was charged that morning with inciting a riot, disorderly conduct, harassment and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Lopez’s police record before Saturday’s shooting contains minor offenses such as third-degree trespassing and a failure to maintain car insurance.”
The photo referenced above does not appear to be a “typical” “right-wing extremist”. Neither does the fact that he had been arrested earlier for inciting a riot.
Several bystanders returned fire, shooting Lopez in the leg, according to the citation.
His citation noted he was in possession of a handgun "with two full mags of ammo" at the time of the arrest.
Peaceful protestors with guns in a shoot-out.
There are thousands of citizen/police interactions every day in the US. A certain number of them are going to go sour.
You just wait for it to happen and then to quote a very evil man "Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it. Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy."
This is exactly what they are doing.
I should also mention that our state Gov and Louisville mayor are both Democrat (if that wasn't evident already) and the current interim police chief was just put in a few weeks ago (the old one was set to retire in June, after the second shooting during the curfew where cops/National Guard exchanged gunfire with a gathering at a business during the curfew, black owner was caught in crossfire and killed, none of the cops had on their bodycams and the police chief was fired the next day) In short, it's an absolute s**tshow here.
I watched this reported on ABC Nightly on Sunday.
Although they gave the name of the suspect they didn't show his photo and he wasn't identified as one of the protestors.
The bulk of the ABC report was about 'peaceful protestors' being confronted by 'white supremacists' and 'right-wing extremists'.
THAT is their narrative.
The shooter might take offense, but if you go by the one drop rule, I’d say he’s a black Hispanic.
Media initially was trying to blame the killing in Seattle's CHOP on white supremacists who came there to start trouble. The narrative never ends.
So what we have here are “peaceful protesters” shooting at each other, one died.
Looks like a real charmer.
