In an interview with Morning Edition's Steve Inskeep, Attorney General William Barr denied that the Justice Department is continually upholding the interest of the president, dismissed concerns about the firing of federal prosecutor Geoffrey Berman and said he does not believe an election conducted mainly by mail can be secure.
Steve Inskeep: Thank you again for taking the time. I'm appreciative to have this opportunity.
Attorney General William Barr: Thank you.
I want to note that in the last few days, there have been three acts of yours that have made the news, sometimes not for the first time. The dismissal of the case against Michael Flynn, which, of course, an appeals court upheld; the Roger Stone case in which a whistleblower questioned the way that you changed the sentencing recommendation; and then the removal of Geoffrey Berman in New York. I want to ask about your underlying authority as you see it in cases like this. Does the president, acting through you, have the power, complete power, to use his authority in cases where he has an interest?
Attorney General Barr Says DOJ Acts Independent Of Trump's Interests POLITICS William Barr Says Justice Department Acts Independent Of Trump Interests Well, this wasn't a case of the president acting. It was, these were cases of me acting [crosstalk].
Although you say your act as the president's hand. I mean, it's the president acting [crosstalk].
Well, the president ultimately has the authority as chief executive to, quote, see that the laws are faithfully executed against the attorney general who performs that function under the law. And so I will take them in any order you want.

Gee,I wonder how this one turned out!
A co-worker today said he heard something on NPR.
I cringed.
Final statement by Barr in the interview:
” I think I think under President Trump’s leadership, with the growing opportunity and some of the stands that he’s taken, have put us on a better track. Now, I think what’s happened in the last few weeks is a combination of things. I think the people out committing the destruction and the chaos, as you say, they’re actually a fairly small group. And I don’t think they’re representative of what America wants, what they think. I think it’s a small group that’s deliberately trying to create chaos. And I also think the morale of the country right now has been affected by the pandemic. And that’s another factor there. But I do think that as we come out of the pandemic and our economy rebounds, that we do have a promising future.”
He’s running out the clock.
Unfortunate but true. Barr is full of excuses about not announcing indictments against the conspirators.
You can bet your sweet bippy that coronavirus or no coronavirus, Mueller’s people would have had indictments out in no time at all.
Bar is allowing criminal conspirators to hide behind pandemic bull$hit...which essentially allows them to run out the clock...
He’s already admitted he doesn’t have time to prosecute the guilty before the election...
On the other hand, Mueller and cronies had years to do government funded political prosecutions and opposition research...
Thanks Jeff Sessions, and Rinos for castrating GOP efforts to expose the hoax long ago...
No, Lindsey Graham wanted a deep dive into the Trump Admin, and campaign...Rosenstein broke the DOJ/FBI rules, protocols, and criminal oversite statutes to bring down Trump.
Bar came on board just in time for Mueller to exit stage right, but the landmines and minefields had already been prepped.
Bar is allowing criminal conspirators to hide behind pandemic bull$hit...which essentially allows them to run out the clock...
Near everybody inside Main DOJ hates POTUS with a white hot passion. Barr has an impossible job without strong support on his flanks from the GOP Congress. They hate POTUS just as much and steadfastly refuse to honor the oaths they swore to defend the Constitution against all enemies.
Hes running out the clock.
Only two more months to go. Barr even have to run at this point. A brisk walk will finish up the clock on Trump’s first term. You can see now Barr is mailing it in now without much effort at all. He’ll give a few more interviews and Congressional testimony and that will be it.
Somehow he has time to talk to NPR and play bagpipes. Oh and cover up the Epstein murder.
I believe 2017 is going to be seen as one of the most historic years in American history. A bipartisan coup was birthed against a sitting POTUS in that year. We’ve never seen anything like that in near 250 years of American history.
Lol
I agree, what sux is how little we’ve been able to do about it..
We’ve always thought...if we catch em in the act we can prosecute!!!
So wrong, and so freaking awful...!
So true, and so freaking sad!!!
They really don’t give a crap about Trump, they loved his billions when it benefits them...
They hate being held accountable by conservatives.... because we’re supposed to be suckers who write checks and vote R...
No longer, we write checks to and vote for real conservatives....
No more McCain’s, Romney’s, Ryan’s, Boehners, Flake’s, Mcsallys, Burr’s....and on and on...
typical NPR interview. I sure wish they would defund NPR.
