On Tuesdays edition of First Take on ESPN, Wallace identified mechanic David Cropps as the team member who found the rope.
When my crew guy who happens to be African-American - saw that he did his research first, Wallace, a native of Mobile, explained on First Take. I was very proud of that. David Cropps, a guy Ill stand by in any trenches on any day, walked up and down the garages to make sure he wasnt overreacting. He saw that other garage pulls were basically just a solid piece of rope, no knots in them, and we have a knot thats in the shape of a noose.
Wallace told The Dan Patrick Show he told the FBI he questioned Cropps and crew chief Jerry Baxter to make sure they didnt jump the gun on what they saw.
I asked them, Did we check the other garages? Wallace said. Both of them said in their heart of hearts that it was done over night. This isnt something that can be done in minutes. This took time.

He will probably “win” the next Daytona 500.
That was my theory yesterday - an affirmative action member of the BLM crew.
Nascar pissed off a huge amount of fans when the head of that organization stopped the drivers and lectured them and us fans about racism in America. Big time foul up.
Then along comes this garage rope fake bs.
Nascar officials will be shocked at the tv ratings going forward. And their advertisers and sponsors will see that as well.
Dumb a**....all he had to do was look at the garage next door. Now thinking this was a publicity stunt. In fact, based on Bubba’s reaction, I’d say it’s definite.
I think I’ll open a fried chicken joint and call it “Bubba’s Noose”.
This is provably false, or evidence of a crime. There are pictures of the other bays showing looped pulls. The 7 month old pic with the #21 car in bay 5 shows a knot that looks like a hangman's knot. Other bays looked more like a bowline knot. Also, in the June 21 pics where the bay 5 knot had been cut off, the bay 4 pull rope had obviously just been untied, evidenced by the kinks in the rope. Someone went around and untied the other rope pulls. THAT would be tampering with evidence. Everyone was asking "when the knot was tied". I ask "when were the other knots untied"? I think we know the answer.
Neither the cowardly Bubba Smollett nor NASCAR are willing to use the word “knot” in their crisis management communications.
I’d like to know this team member’s qualifications to be in a NASCAR garage.
Still no pix of the offending noose.
So, it is still their word — which the media is lapping up.
It doesnt take a worm long to turn, no matter what color worm it is...
First chance all love and acceptance is tossed in favor of accusations..
These kind of people are evil no matter the color..
Why not just tie a bowline?
How about hanging chickens with a noose?
Fresh kill.
The Kreh Knot is commonly used for fishing. I expect there is a lot of overlap between people who fish, and people who watch/participate in NASCAR.
I would wager the "good ole boys" know how to tie a Kreh knot because of fishing, but might not have known how to tie a bowline knot.
Is a bowline knot used in fishing? I don't know, because I don't fish.
That is quite a pack of lies he’s telling there. It’s pretty obvious too.
not sure we’ll ever know, but who the hell is the original culprit?? the article makes it sound like the CEO of NASCAR. Is he doing it to gin up interest? I’d like to know WTH is really going on here.
That’s not kosher.
I guess you could consider that a noose if you’re a pinhead, as both of these morons appear to be. Bubba should be banned from racing for embarrassing the other drivers and trying to unfairly paint one of them as a racist. No different than cute lil Jussie claiming some guy in a MAGA hat assaulted him.
The pre-race activities for Pocono should be very interesting.
Probably gag-inducing.
Bubba needs to learn the first law of holes.
