Biden Takes Dominant Lead as Voters Reject Trump on Virus and Race
NYT ^ | June 24, 2020 | Alexander Burns, Jonathan Martin and Matt Stevens

Joseph R. Biden Jr. has taken a commanding lead over President Trump in the 2020 race, building a wide advantage among women and nonwhite voters and making deep inroads with some traditionally Republican-leaning groups that have shifted away from Mr. Trump following his ineffective response to the coronavirus pandemic, according to a new national poll of registered voters by The New York Times and Siena College.

Mr. Biden is currently ahead of Mr. Trump by 14 percentage points, garnering 50 percent of the vote compared with 36 percent for Mr. Trump. That is among the most dismal showings of Mr. Trump’s presidency, and a sign that he is the clear underdog right now in his fight for a second term.

Mr. Trump has been an unpopular president for virtually his entire time in office. He has made few efforts since his election in 2016 to broaden his support beyond the right-wing base that vaulted him into office with only 46 percent of the popular vote and a modest victory in the Electoral College.

...

The dominant picture that emerges from the poll is of a country ready to reject a president whom a strong majority of voters regard as failing the greatest tests confronting his administration.

Mr. Biden leads Mr. Trump by enormous margins with black and Hispanic voters, and women and young people appear on track to choose Mr. Biden by an even wider margin than they favored Hillary Clinton over Mr. Trump in 2016. But the former vice president has also drawn even with Mr. Trump among male voters, whites and people in middle age and older — groups that have typically been the backbones of Republican electoral success, including Mr. Trump’s in 2016.

Dream on.
ABC Washington Post had Trump down 12% with just 2 weeks to go to the elections.
NBC had Hilary leading by 14 points with 28 days to go.
Trump still won comfortably in electoral votes. .

Yes, late October was the first time Hillary cleared the 50% threshold. Biden did it in May this year. That is what people are pointing to as being different.

That exactly is the point of having a lot more money in the bank than the Biden campaign .You can afford to spend even in places that you will win. After all Trump just had his first rally in four months in Oklahoma which Trump will will win in a landslide.
You wanna try again?

Biden is not Hillary. We shouldn’t dismiss this poll. The only clear line of attack we have on Biden is that he maybe senile. If he shows up in the debates and does not fall on his face, its going to be a tough task to beat him.

Except that late October polls are supposed to be the closest to the real election results with no time for comeback. Trump still clobbered Hilary anyway.

The guy is barely coherent.

They should be investing the huge amount of campaign funds they’ve raised.

That said, the fact that President Trump has survived a bonafide coup attempt involving the FBI and CIA, a pandemic for which the economy was shut down for months, organized riots funded by those vested in removing him from office (including foreign and domestic nefarious sources), and a media that hates him and has lied repeatedly to try to destroy him, should tell you a lot about his strength as a candidate for reelection, and the strength of his base.

What is really telling is how the left have removed their masks (not the PPE kind) and are going all out to defeat Trump. They hate him, they fear him, and they know that he has a really good chance of being reelected.

Yes, he rambles on. But remember that he outlasted all the other dem contenders with all his drawbacks. Not being coherent is not a big issue for the dem electorate. An easily mainpulated senile old guy may not be a bad thing in many people’s mind.

Well, that’s it! Might as well start the right-wing Civil War II now. The hero is in the White House, the evildoers are in Congress! Light a fire under your senators and congresscritters.

Again that’s one poll. Others showed it way closer. The AVERAGE of polls at this point is double what Hillary. It’s not the same as 2016.

He didn't outlast anybody. The DNC kneecapped Bernie Sanders. Biden underperformed in every single primary until the DNC pressured everyone to withdraw apart from Sanders, then got everyone to endorse Biden.
Biden couldn't win sh*t without it being handed to him.
Trump is not handing nuthin’ to Joe Dementia.

Early cover for the improbable win of Joe Biden through massive voter fraud.

You hit the nail on the head.

...At least in the Trump economy, with his tireless efforts to deregulate, people are free to develop alternate means of doing business and have been doing so. A controlled socialist economy would have crashed and burned under the pressure of the pandemic...

100% correct about the deregulation. I believe this leads to the US taking business away from the rest of the developed world. Our economy will bounce back much faster than Europe.

A second issue is that the campaign has not even started yet. A lot will happen between now and November. Polls before the conventions are worthless.

Sgain it wasn’t one poll.
Look at #39 and #44.
#39 was directed to you I believe.
2016 was less than 4 years ago.
We were all alive then.
And the internet has a long memory.
I could bring you a very long list of polls and articles like this one, between June and October 2016 which had Hilary winning in a landslide. Plus plenty of youtube videos from CNN ABC NBC CBS etc from 2016 which predicted a massive win for Hilary. Virtually no one thought Trump had a chance. Outside of one or two people that is.
This NYT article is not exactly new.

I don’t know a single person who voted for Trump who isn’t planning to do so again. Quite the opposite, in fact, they are all more determined than ever. How that translates into a 14 point lead without the use of LSD or 20 million fraudulent ballots, I don’t know.
