The World Health Organization has reported the largest single-day increase in coronavirus cases by its count, at more than 183,000 new cases in the latest 24 hours.
The UN health agency says Brazil led the way with 54,771 cases tallied and the US next at 36,617. Over 15,400 came in in India.
Experts say rising case counts can reflect multiple factors including more widespread testing as well as broader infection.
Overall in the pandemic, WHO has reported 8,708,008 cases — 183,020 in the last 24 hours — with 461,715 deaths worldwide, with a daily increase of 4,743.
More than two-thirds of those new deaths were reported in the Americas.
The number of newly confirmed coronavirus cases in Oklahoma has set a new daily record of 478.
The Oklahoma State Department of Health department reported Sunday that total confirmed cases rose to 10,515 from 10,037 a day earlier.
The state’s previous record of 450 new cases in one day was set Thursday. Interim state health Commissioner Dr. Lance Frye has said a surge in coronavirus cases was expected after the state began reopening in late April.
The new wave comes amid ongoing demonstrations to protest police killings of Black citizens, Juneteenth celebrations and a Saturday campaign rally US President Donald Trump held at an indoor arena in Tulsa.
The health department on Sunday reported one virus-related death. Oklahoma’s COVID-19 death toll how stands at 369.

I’d guess this headline and story was concocted three days PRIOR to the rally.
Because everybody knows people infected with Covid show symptoms 8 hours after a Trump Rally.

No more Covid, but we will hear about FEMA re-education camps. I know a high school classmate, who worked for FEMA. I asked her if the camps really existed. She said no, but they could build them in only weeks.
Meanwhile an estimated range of 2019 worldwide deaths from AIDS related illness is 570K to 1.1 million. The estimated single number is about 750k.

We in the US are now testing an average of 600,000 people a day. Of COURSE you’re going to see increased numbers of positives. The key is the death rate. The number of reported “infections” are not particularly relevant as that can be increasing due to increase in testing - what is the rate of hospitalization? Are hospital resources being stretched or are they able to handle it? That’s the issue - not the number of “infections” that are discovered.
Since health departments classify nearly all deaths to covid regardless of the actual reason, all the numbers are suspect including infections.
Something stinks about this article. The rally was Saturday? This article is dated Sunday? And they're already attributing the rise in cases in Oklahoma, in part, to the rally?
What's the incubation period on this virus? Twelve minutes?
No matter since it will be Trump’s fault.
IMHO understanding percentages is far more important for the general population than any other math concept. Instead, schools rush through the concepts of percent so that kids can start algebra.
