Roosevelt Statue to Be Removed From Museum of Natural History
NYT ^ | June 21, 2020 | Robin Pogrebin

The bronze statue of Theodore Roosevelt, on horseback and flanked by a Native American man and an African man, which has presided over the entrance to the American Museum of Natural History in New York since 1940, is coming down.

The decision, proposed by the museum and agreed to by New York City, which owns the building and property, came after years of objections from activists and at a time when the killing of George Floyd has initiated an urgent nationwide conversation about racism.

For many, the “Equestrian” statue at the museum’s Central Park West entrance had come to symbolize a painful legacy of colonial expansion and racial discrimination.

“Over the last few weeks, our museum community has been profoundly moved by the ever-widening movement for racial justice that has emerged after the killing of George Floyd,” the museum’s president, Ellen V. Futter, said in an interview. “We have watched as the attention of the world and the country has increasingly turned to statues as powerful and hurtful symbols of systemic racism.

Just watched part of Ken Burns show about the founding of the National Parks, which wouldn’t exist without Roosevelt. These anti-statue commies are attacking America’s identity and cultural heritage.

I’ve stopped being polite to people who are not polite to me. No more asymmetrical submission. F them. They want to be aholes, I make sure they have to face their being dumb, poor, and fat.

It’s actually a great relief. Having been raised “right”, and christian, it is a big change, but it has to happen.

What is remarkable, is that I rarely encounter people to be mutually polite with. They are all rude. All the immigrants are rude, all most of the “minorities” are rude. It seems that only people who have been in the U.S.A. for a few generations want to be nice.

Cancel culture comes home to roost.

Maybe we should cancel the outcome of the Civil War, while we’re re-writing history.

FDR put people in camps. Do him next.

The GOP AKA the Doormat Party won’t be touching that one. Or klansman Robert Byrd for that matter.

You didn't watch it to end of the series.

I believe Burns attributes park conservation to a black man.

Thanks a fool in paradise. All the statues removed / destroyed, along with those portraying Lenin and other enemies of the US Constitution, should be replaced with with a multiple-effigy statue of Presidents Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, Reagan, and Trump.

You know, I'm sorry, but that's just stupid.

All this calling them out for hypocrisy and double standards, all the "D3R" talk, is just accepting and endorsing their moral frame.

If you DO endorse the anti-white left's moral frame (that being a "racist" is the worst thing you can be, and that the left's definition of "racist" is sound), then fine.

But I doubt you actually believe that.

FDR was not wrong to put the Japanese in camps, according to the facts on the ground in the Spring of 1942. Teddy Roosevelt was an exemplary American. The decision to accept the Southern states back and to allow them their heroes and their traditions was wise and compassionate. And so on.

Every time you call them out for not following their own rules, you stand up for those rules as if they were correct.

There is no historical figure who had a 21st century politically correct worldview.

You can find something objectionable based on a 21st century politically correct view of things with anyone in history.

So to carry this to its logical conclusion , everyone in history needs to be deleted.

The US has never had colonies.

I think these leftists consider the settlement of the American West as a form of colonization.

“Someone should get them to admit they’d like a statue of Stalin in its place.”

There is one of Lenin in Seattle that has remained unharmed.
