OXFORD (CBS) An escalating standoff with the town of Oxford and a local gym owner came to a head as the town moved in and changed the locks and ordered any members inside to leave. This week a judge ruled the town could use whatever means necessary to close the facility and took the first step overnight by turning off the water and electricity.
In the afternoon, a constable posted a copy of the court order and soon after the locks were being changed.
I understand shutdown laws and rules but enough is enough, said Prime Fitness owner David Blondin.
Under the states emergency shutdown order gyms are not allowed to open until phase 3, but Blondin reopened his doors one month ago with the support of his members.
Youre going to have 25-30 people at the most. Down the street at Walmart and Target its a hundred people at one time. Its ridiculous, said member James Lauzonis.
Oxford town counsel Mark Reich called it a matter of public health and safety. This kind of operation could lead to a spike in the virus. I dont think we should be impacted by the intent of one individual to flout the law, said Reich.
Blondin faces $1300 a day in mounting fines and believes the town has other intentions. It almost seems they want to put me out of business completely, Blondin said.

Just claim to be an all black gym. Power will be back on in 2 seconds.
Or call it a subdivision of seattles Chaz country.
The list of who should open and who should not is absurd. Our Bjs parking lot has been full all through this. The only restriction is wear a mask. Groceries, lawn care, clothes....It’s called retail...but TjMaxx and all the other stores.gyms must remain closed. Ridiculous.
May as well burn the place down.
Scamdemic feeds the megalomania in a good many local despots. This is a prime example.
Empty out City Hall. Start over...
The owner of the gym is going to be on WRKO momentarily.
I guess it’s different from Eminent Domain — the government doesn’t have to compensate you because they aren’t “taking” your property — they’re just shutting you down and making sure your property can’t generate income for you. So I guess that’s peachy keen.
Call in and ask if he votes for democrats
It would be a shame if the Oxford government building burnt down.
A real shame...
I actually saw a professionally printed “Black Lives Matter” lawn sign in a Whitopia suburb (dumb, dumb, dumb... :-) ).
If they put that sign in front of the building they and their customers become immune to the virus and are good to go!
So they just seize the business???
How very fascist of them.
Hope this guy next owns the town.
Im going to go out on a limb and say he probably doesn’t.
I would hope the lawyers are beating a path to his door.
In my neighborhood, we have several black families as well as other races. The only BLM sign I ever saw in my area was in front of a white liberal’s house.
REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER. VOTE AGAINST EVERY DEMOCRAT ON THE BALLOT, VOTE THEM OUT OF OFFICE.
In my very rural “neighborhood”, we mostly have moose families. :-)
I do visit civilization from time to time, and that is where I saw the sign.
Of course they were white liberals, but I would bet their not so liberal neighbors are probably having discussions about what to do about the sign.
These folks paid big bucks to live in privacy in their very upscale all white neighborhood and they do not like to draw _any_ attention to themselves. :-)
not gonna work. lawyers have no chance.
in MA, the lawyers nominated the judge
who is OWNED by them already, which is
why he/she was CHOSEN. it is already over.
unless you are a rattlesnake or democrat
or Trump hater, the corrupt governor
(picked by RomneyCARE)
will ignore you.
Tyranny. Freedom or death. The government needs to fear the people. Figure it out.
the state government changed the locks on private property? sounds like vandalism and/or breaking and entering to me...
