The city of Raleigh will require people to wear face masks starting at 4 p.m. Friday (6/19/20) in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
The emergency proclamation, signed by Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin on Wednesday, requires everyone in the city to wear a face covering that goes over the mouth and nose whenever they are “in contact with other people who are not household members in public or private spaces where it is not possible to maintain social distance or where recommended social distancing practices are not being followed.” . .
“We asked, now we’re telling,” Baldwin said in a press conference Wednesday. “And I think that’s the difference. Issuing an order state of emergency sends a different message than asking people to do something. I think this really takes the magnitude of this and says this is important, folks. We need compliance.”

I know it will work, I saw it in the movie Contagion.
But they’ve shown they don’t really believe it, not from a perspective of medical science.
Not when the riots and protests were permitted.
Perhaps this will end the onslaught of the terrible disease which is killing thousands of people every day in Raleigh.

Half the cities in Arizona are rushing to make similar rules since Gov Douchey wimped out on controlling the crazies. Expect some counties to follow within a week.
Interesting mix here in a little down east city.
Probably a 25% masked to 75% unmasked for the white population. The non white population is about the opposite.
Same-same here in San Antonio. County Judge Nelson Wolff issued a new order requiring all commercial entities to develop and post conspicuously a “Health and Safety Plan” for interfacing with the public. $1K fine if it’s not posted within 5 days. No other enforcement mechanism and it doesn’t even require businesses to enforce their plan. Democrats being Democrats. Trying to skirt Gov Abbott’s prohibition on civil or criminal sanctions for not wearing a mask.
Well, at least I’ll have an excuse when I try to rob a bank. :D

The plan does not have to be approved. It just has to exist. It’s like telling people to “drive safely”. OK, thanks for your suggestion.

Our little area of NC has returned to normal. Cooper cannot allow that, but he also does not want to go to court. We are a conservative county. The local cops initially threatened to issue citations, but eventually they just stopped. Only areas in NC that have some level of Democrat control are being kept in perpetual lock down. To my way of thinking Cooper needs Dem mayors and county officials to go along to justify his forcing the Convention out of NC losing the State millions of dollars. Elderly people need to be careful, families with members who have compromised immune systems need to be careful, but hell they should always be careful a common cold could kill a 80 year old.

Actually, we're still holding steady at about 20,000 new cases per day. The good news is instead of 1,000-2,000 new deaths each day we now have only about 850 new deaths per day. Hopefully that means the virus is mutating to a less lethal strain.

Doesn't matter if he does. Folks are just as capable of attending Trump rallies masked as unmasked. Come to think of it Trump's people could sell MAGA masks at the rally.
Austin Travis County passed yesterday wear a mask or fined 1k.
