Aunt Jemima brand to change name, remove image that Quaker says is 'based on a racial stereotype'.

The Aunt Jemima brand of syrup and pancake mix will get a new name and image, Quaker Oats announced Wednesday, saying the company recognizes that "Aunt Jemima's origins are based on a racial stereotype."

The 130-year-old brand features a Black woman named Aunt Jemima, who was originally dressed as a minstrel character.

The picture has changed over time, and in recent years Quaker removed the “mammy” kerchief from the character to blunt growing criticism that the brand perpetuated a racist stereotype that dated to the days of slavery. But Quaker, a subsidiary of PepsiCo, said removing the image and name is part of an effort by the company “to make progress toward racial equality.”

No kidding, that ‘stereotype’ also happens to be an iconic portrayal of a much beloved and admired archetype. Another example of convincing blacks in particular that admiration = racism. That’s how the left practices racism, by rejecting all admiration of black contributions to our culture and history.

Really? I suppose this lady is just a minstrel character too?

Compare to Aunt Jemima

I believe you too. They are working very hard at erasing our history. Starting with the statues and now it’s pancake mix!

When people get used to preferential treatment,
equal treatment seems like discrimination.

Are they implying Aunt Jemima was a lousy cook? That’s not nice. Goes against the grain of requiring minority figures in advertising. I guess they’ll have to make Betty Crocker black.

Let's just remove everything that reminds blacks there was an age of slavery....make it mandatory that everything promoted or sold has black and white representation. And once that's done then what? What will be their excuses and grievances?...... They have convinced me that as long as there is any white American they will never be satsified with their life in this country.

Oh, sure — they’ve been trading off a racist image for 130 years and they think a name change can make things right? I don’t think so. As for me, there are plenty of alternatives to whatever Aunt Jemima, Uncle Ben, etc., become, and I will be buying them.
