Can Trump Recover and Win in November?
Townhall.com ^ | June 17, 2020 | Star Parker

Henry Olsen, a scholar from the Ethics and Public Policy Center in Washington, D.C., has a well-deserved reputation for on-target analysis on politics and elections.

Olsen just published a column in the Washington Post titled "Trump may be down, but he is not out. At least not yet."

The bottom has fallen out of President Donald Trump's approval ratings. Most recently, Gallup reports his approval at 39%, down 10 points from the month before.

According to Olsen, by conventional analysis, the outlook for a Trump victory in November is not good. "Presidents who polled this poorly less than five months before Election Day have always lost," he wrote.

But how useful is conventional analysis now?

President Trump is not a conventional figure. These are not conventional times. And his polling has been like a roller coaster since he was elected.

The standard reelection campaign refrain is "Are you better off now than you were four years ago?"

President Trump ran on a theme: "Make America Great Again." Voters will ask in November, "Is America greater today than four years ago?"

Here again, there is reason for concern.

Another new Gallup poll shows the percentage of Americans saying they are "extremely" or "very" proud of their country is the lowest ever, at 63%. This is 18 points lower than where it stood four years ago.

Gallup also now reports only 20% of Americans saying they are satisfied with the direction of the country. Just four months ago, in February, it stood at 45%, the highest it had stood in 15 years.

The first big drop in satisfaction occurred following the spread of COVID-19. Then, in May, it dropped 12 points following the death of George Floyd.

Last February, the economy was surging, as was Trump's approval. Unemployment, including black unemployment, was at all-time lows.

Now Trump is being tarred, justifiably or not, with COVID-19 and racial unrest.

Can light enter the tunnel?

The May jobs report was strong, showing a drop in unemployment and 2.5 million new jobs. The economy is starting to roar back.

Most certainly, there will be some kind of bipartisan legislation dealing with policing. Demonstrations don't go on forever. Time, plus action on policing, could take the edge off racial tensions.

A sharp economic recovery and easing of racial tensions can produce a bounce-back for Trump like he has seen in the past.

What is critical?

What motivated voters to go Republican in 2016 and swing six blue states red was the Make America Great Again message: freedom in the marketplace and draining the swamp in Washington.

The challenges are even greater now than then.

We are now looking at a $2 trillion-plus deficit. National debt now stands at 110% of our gross domestic product -- the highest since World War II.

The answers to our COVID-19 recovery and our racial challenges must be freedom. Only freedom will open the door to innovation and respecting the humanity of every citizen.

It will be easy to go down the alternative road, where the nation's left would like to take us -- institutionalizing the massive surge of government to deal with COVID-19 and more government-mandated diversity as the answer to racial tensions. This will bog us down with socialism and slow growth, hurting the very people we supposedly want to help.

Let's give credit to the American people. We're facing different crises today. But dealing with the greatest crisis is the best way to deal with the other ones. That greatest crisis is choosing the right path for the nation's future.

The candidate who conveys to voters a sense that America's future will be defined by freedom, and a rule of law that respects the humanity of all and is carried out fairly and equally, is the candidate America's majority will choose.

It’s real simple.

After seeing how the Left has acted, and after seeing who they support, I’m just going to assume that President Trump WILL be elected to his second term (and I will VOTE as such).

If there IS massive voter fraud, proven as such, and he isn’t re-elected because of it, then it’s time for PATRIOTS to lock & load and unleash Hell.

Won’t be pretty, but it’ll finally tell the idiots how we REALLY feel. We will NOT submit to the evil intentions they have for every one of us. Because if we don’t, WE will be the ones who cease to exist.

So according to you because he did not test positive for Covid 19 he's not going to win?

What a loser you are for giving up.

Over a million people requested tickets for Trump’s Tulsa rally.

Guess they didn’t get the memo that Trump is going to lose.

Recover from what?

He hasn't done anything that would bring about his demise.

The media has pummeled him relentlessly, and he remains standing.

If that is what he needs to recover from, I think he will do fine.

This is the last paragraph in Star Parker's ob-ed, which means she believes he will win and so do I and you should too. If you don't than you are a loser.

Here in MN, a poll of 1,500 Minnesotans was taken regarding what is going on here. 79 percent rejected the idea that riots were justified, including blocking highways. A plurality didn’t think the cops will get fair trials in Hennepin County. The majority also said that mayor Frey bungled the handling of the riots.

To me, that is an indication that Trump if he devotes some effort, will take Minnesota this time.

The overwhelming majority of all people want law and order. Trump is campaigning on that while Biden is saying get rid of or defund law enforcement. Pretty easy win on this issue if clearly stated without the fake news spin.

Biden is a potted plant.

I agree. But I have doubts the plot includes Biden running against Trump. Something’s up their sleeve. Either a quick replacement or Biden will step aside due to his obvious mental problem, dems will want a redo of their own primary and seek to delay the elections until it’s completed, Trump will refuse to delay the elections and the MSN / Dems will cry “Voter Surpression” / “Voter Injustice” and somehow this will be believed in all the left-wing media polls and if Trump does beat the mail-in fraud and other election fraud which will likely happen, the dems will try to impeach him for not delaying the election.

Trump will win in a landslide.

Quite possible if you don’t consider election fraud. We’re in a time where vandalism and arson is accepted by states and cities (same people who will over watch local elections). COVID-19: Left-wing protests are a protected right, Republican Party Political Rallies in an upcoming election year is shunned just like the authorities are shunned. Without the authorities, who’s going to be at the doors when we go vote? ANTIFA? Will the dems put rioters in conservative/republican districts in front of the polling places on election day? If so, WHO will stop them?

Yes, Trump would likely win in a landslide if there are no obstructions.

“Biden is a potted plant. No way he beats Trump.”

They are not voting for Biden but his VP. If he picks a black women like the mayor of Atlanta, Trump is going to be in a world of hurt. He will lose nearly all the black vote.

I’m 50/50 if Trump will get reelected at this point..too far out to call.

biden is going to be completely isolated from difficult situations.

Basically he just has to get through 2 debates -— and the media will cover up and say that he won the debates

Didn’t Barr say Antifa was a terrorist organization?

But so far, I have not seen any major arrests.

Also, Barr was supposed to go after the people who started the Russian collusion farce. Still, nothing has been done.

I’m beginning to think Barr is all bark with no bite.

Ultimately, the common sense American people will have take a stand. So far, we have let Trump do all the heavy lifting.

We will have to show up in large numbers to confront the leftist, antifa pajama boys. We will have to show them how relatively unimportant they are....and small their numbers are. We will send them back to their mommy’s basement.

We will have to vote out every POS leftist politician.

I’m not going to say you’re wrong.

Read somewhere else that they’ve been “quietly” going after some folks, but I find that hard to believe. The ANTIFA type has shown that they go apoplectic over the wind blowing the wrong way, no way they’re letting their own be taken away in cuffs without saying anything.

In Atlanta, the GBI discovered that one person was paying for anyone arrested to get out of jail. But I’ve yet to see a story about it. Maybe they’re working on something, who knows.

At the end of the day, thanks to the Post 9/11 Banking reforms/laws, you can’t move money without someone being able to track the moves. It’s impossible and that is different than the $10k threshold that gets reported to the IRS.

As for the Russia stuff....he has made overtures that Durham is conducting a criminal investigation, so I guess we still have to wait on that. All while McCabe and Page get paid gigs on tv when they should be in a cell under the NDAA for Treason and Sedition, along with many others.
