Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf and cabinet members of his health and human services agencies collectively condemned the Trump Administration’s revoking of protections for equal access to healthcare because of their sexual orientation or gender identity in a Sunday press release.
The Obama-era Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) previously secured the right.
“This rule flies in the face of every policy and protection my administration has put in place,” Wolf said.
Wolf said the action will put the LGBTQ community at greater risk and is “especially egregious” since it came during a pandemic and on the anniversary of the Pulse nightclub mass shooting.
Wolf added, Changing an Affordable Care Act rule that includes provisions for non-discrimination based on sex to include only male and female genders is another attempt to dismantle the ACA and put our LGBTQ community’s well-being at greater risk by trying to delegitimize this vulnerable population.”
Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine called the action “unconscionable.”
“These actions not only put the LGBTQ community at risk, they put our entire health care system in jeopardy. These continuous attacks on the rights of transgender Americans must stop,” Levine said. “Gov. Wolf has shown that protecting the rights of all Pennsylvanians is essential to our continued success and prosperity — the federal government should do the same.”
Pennsylvania Department of Human Services secretary, Teresa Miller, said this decision will exacerbate health problems LGBTQ individuals are facing.
“By ending specific non-discrimination requirements for health services, the Trump Administration is allowing for medical professionals to deny vital, life-saving services and could result in health care that is ineffective or inappropriate for LGBTQ and other vulnerable individuals,” Miller said.

They’re either male or female....There’s no “I wanna be” gender.
Liar. They have the same access to healthcare as everyone else. They can purchase a policy on the open market. Or they can pay for healthcare services out of their own pockets. Our constitution clearly reserves healthcare to the states and the people. If your people need welfare to pay for healthcare, that’s your job, governor.

Good post. But you could have added one more point: sex for people with no way or intent of procreation is recreational. If that’s the case, then can someone from the governor’s office buy me a new set of golf clubs? I’d prefer Callaway irons, with Taylor made metals and a bullseye putter with additional wedges to be named later. I’ll get with the dealer on swing weights. Oh, Footjoy, also. Golf is just as recreational as what they are doing so why not? And staying in shape means I won’t cost the state health care expenses. Win/win
