Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., introduced a bill Thursday to end "no-knock" warrants like the one that led to the shooting death of an African-American woman earlier this year.
The Justice for Breonna Taylor Act would prohibit federal law enforcement from forcibly entering a home without announcing their purpose for executing the warrant and their authority. The measure is named after Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old EMT who was fatally shot by Louisville officers on March 13 after they used a battering ram to enter her home.
The officers were executing a drug warrant in search of a male suspect who didn't live in her apartment complex. He had already been detained prior to the warrant being executed.
Taylor, who was studying to become a nurse, was shot eight times and died. No drugs were found in her home. A four-page incident report of the shooting is drawing criticism after it appeared virtually blank and inaccurate, the Louisville Courier-Journal reported.
After talking with Breonna Taylors family, Ive come to the conclusion that its long past time to get rid of no-knock warrants, Paul said in a statement. This bill will effectively end no-knock raids in the United States.

Except those armed standoffs and hostage set up almost never happen. It’s not a tough call at all. The fact that they so regularly get the address wrong is why no knock raids need to be banned. And a million other reasons. They are simply morally wrong, and stupid, and much higher risk for everybody.
I’ve found it fascinating that this incident is almost completely being ignored by the left wing press. It’s certainly not the subject of mass protest or tearful candlelight vigils.
Somehow, it doesn’t fit the narrative. Maybe because the boyfriend was trying to defend their home with a handgun, against people that he didn’t think were police.
FWIW on balance I agree with you. No way it’s worth the risk,
especially when you look at how many senseless deaths have resulted from it. The whole idea smacks of the Gestapo or the Stasi.
Like I said the Dems will kill this in the House because some Republicans like Rand are pushing it. Can’t have the narrative stolen.
This should be a no-brainer - no-knock warrants must end. I don’t understand how such a warrant is currently legal.
Yup. It’s one of those treating civilians like the enemy things. Very much a contributing factor to our current mess.
No knocks and asset forfeiture is very dangerous.
Barring No-knock warrants well so mush for having a raid what do they have to do next call and give them a 1/2 hour warning they are coming.
Stupidity from D.C. on the march.
No knock raid might have a purpose but they have been misused and overused. If PCs can use them responsibly, and innocent citizens are being killed, then they should be ended.
Ever since the "USA Patriot Act" and DHS came about, the violence level and intrusive scanning and tracking of citizens has exploded. Even dogs are routinely killed by cops, and We The Sheeple seem fine with it.
I get a lot of pushback on this here, but there is nothing "conservative" about an unrestricted police state.
“...given the ineffective job done by police leaders in our largest cities?..”
True. These types are almost invariably political hacks who have zero interest in or the competence to be capable leaders. They are often gadflys flitting from city to city to advance their own careers. Actual day to day operations tend to be managed by equally incompetent stooges. Ability to suck up to democrat mayors is primary skill of these losers. Chicago a prime example.
Absolutely. No knocks are gangster, cartel, Gestapo etc tactics. Too many innocent people/dogs killed by bloodthirsty itchy trigger fingered cops.
No knock raids should be completely banned. They are a flagrant violation of the 4th Amendment. Get a warrant, walk up to the door and knock. And don’t shoot the dog.
Which is the dirty lie they tell
Coos wilk say its gives the Perot time to dump evidence.
Uhmmm, who GAF?
You are there executing a warrant on a probable case so, be done with it, unless your real goal is to exercise your testosterone.
So yes, this is a good move by Paul. But its important to note that his bill would apply to federal officers only.
“Paul’s measure would apply to federal law enforcement agencies, as well as state and local law enforcement that receive funding from the Justice Department.”
Agree. These no-knock warrants arent good for the cops or the innocent víctims or even the guilty (who can then often get off because of police brutality, etc.)
A raid like that should only be done under extreme circumstances. There are times when it is necessary but usually there is no need.
The so-called War on Drugs has morphed into
The War on People.
You no longer have any rights when the popo can smash in your door in the dark of night, armed to the teeth.
It applies to any agency that receives federal funds.
That would be most of them.
