Houston Texans star J.J. Watt tweeted Saturday that kneeling during the national anthem is not about "disrespecting" the American flag or the military.
One person wrote, in a now-deleted tweet, that he was "pretty sure" the three-time Defensive Player of the Year would not be taking a knee, along with three American flag emojis.
Watt clapped back, responding Saturday: Dont speak for me
"If you still think it's about disrespecting the flag or our military, you clearly haven't been listening," Watt tweeted.
On Friday, Texans coach Bill OBrien said he would kneel with his players if they chose to do so during the anthem.
Watt has been outspoken about the need for more understanding and justice in the nation following the death of George Floyd while in police custody in Minneapolis on May 25.
Earlier this month, he wrote a lengthy post on social media that began: Silence is unacceptable."

Your inability to grok that is your problem.

Cracked me up!
I’ve sometimes used the term in conversations and the people look at me like I’m crazy.
Just re-read the book for the third time a month or so ago and learn something new about the story each time.
The American press is a whore. Democrats tell them not to run a story about an injured cop - and they don’t...
...and people of color...
My skin is not black or brown.
My skin does have a color
I won’t be listening or watching.
Sorry...
He finally noticed? Of course normal, decent Americans are not listening. Any "conversation" that starts by insulting our anthem, our flag, our military, our ancestors, and our country is over before it begins. No, I haven't been listening, and I won't listen. Decent people can discuss no-knock warrants (I'm opposed). Normal Americans can discuss police choke holds (I think the rare bad cops get a big kick out of the power trip from choking people). We can discuss a lot of things, but not in response to gratuitous insults.
You would think they had made their point with all the repetitious displays of insult to the flag. We heard their rants and expletive ridden language. It is like that asbestos class action lawsuit commercial. How many times do they have to run it? Soon the kneeling bit becomes like litter on the side of the road. It becomes a canker, with as much irritation, on the tissue of society.
I have finally, totally, found the end. No more sports for me. No more NBA (of which I gave up in the early 1990s), no NFL, no MLB, no college sports. I am done with these butt wipes who THINK they have all the answers to the nation that gave them the abilities to go for the goals they set for their lives. For them, they should be on their knees thanking GOD that He put them in this nation and not in North Korea, Red China, the Soviet Union, some third world crap hole of Izzlam, or some backwoods nation in the hills of eastern Europa. They WOULD HAVE NEVER achieved there what they have here. Go ahead you stupid fools, tear it down, destroy it, crush it and DIE WITH IT!! Because THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU WILL DO!!! Fools born as fools, living as fools, and dying as fools. Go ahead. Destroy it. And be destroyed with it. Fools.
He went full Brees
Another white player pressured to drop to his Brees...
What an ass clown.
RLTW
Black Americans who kneel lose the right to be Americans. They have become our enemies.
Kneelers deserve no respect. In fact they deserve disdain and ostracization
Why is that so hard to understand?
An overhyped overpaid roid raging foot player dares tell me what to think.
But Watt never defended the flag to begin with. Brees did. Adamantly.
Brees’ wife also issued letter begging forgiveness.
For Saints fans, lost a lot of respect.
But I never had any athlete on a pedestal like some people worship them.
How much money will they compromise their values for?
In every other venue the meaning of a gesture is decided by those watching it, but JJ and his fellow NFL thugs think they can dictate what kneeling during the anthem means.
No. It doesn’t work that way.
It’s easy-
Car companies
Beer companies
That should get you started.
Yes, this is a good start, my FRiend.
Then?
We American Citizen (once and former) fans, and all U. S. Military Veterans now deserve from the NFL league and players who chose to insult us ...
... REPARATIONS!
Don’t piss on our flag and tell us it is raining.
:)
It must be 30 years at least since I read it.
I liked Time Enough for Love: The Lives of Lazarus Long better though.
