WASHINGTON — The GOP-led Armed Services Committee has approved a motion requiring the Pentagon to rename military bases and assets named after Confederate leaders — defying President Trump, who warned them not to support the Elizabeth Warren-introduced measure.

The committee on Wednesday approved the amendment to the annual defense bill which will establish a commission to rename all Pentagon assets — including ships, planes, buildings, military bases and equipment — that bear the name of Confederate generals within the next three years, Roll Call reported.

Cities across America have begun removing statues honoring Confederate leaders as the nation engages in an emotional conversation about race and civil rights in the wake of George Floyd’s death at the hands of a white police officer.

Aboard Air Force One on his way to Dallas Thursday afternoon, President Trump tweeted his disapproval of the move from Warren, a member of the committee and former Democratic presidential candidate, telling Republicans not to “fall for” it.

“Seriously failed presidential candidate, Senator Elizabeth “Pocahontas” Warren, just introduced an Amendment on the renaming of many of our legendary Military Bases from which we trained to WIN two World Wars. Hopefully our great Republican Senators won’t fall for this!” Trump wrote.

Good point. Could start with Audie Murphy.

But you know they’ll insist on all blacks. Even if heroes, it’s still a vengeful move.

During the Civil War the Demorats were working for the Confederates from day one. They were called Copperheads. They tried to have New York City secede. They walked into Union Army camps to try to get soldiers to desert and tried to bribe them to get others to do the same. They hate Black people and always have.

I wouldnt mind, either.

But that’s just not my mojo. I’d definitely prefer official process to pull it down.

At least FDR actually had some love and pride in this country. Sorely missing in Dems since at least the hippie years.

Not necessarily so. Don’t fall for all that. It may be nice for sloganeering but it’s not really clearcut about the ACW.

Look at whom of the CW liberals love today, and the only “USA” they unanimously celebrate. It’s Lincoln and his “Union” they adore. It was the ONLY time the USA was perfectly correct and wonderful, per liberals. Otherwise, they always disparage the US.

Think about it.

Republicans and conservatives always giving ground. Always losing.

How about a straight veto. No bargains, no name changes. Just stand your ground.

To honor Medal Of Honor recipients, rename all the MLK streets after the recipients. Now that would be a win.

The Turtle had nothing to do with this vote. It was a Voice Vote within the committee.

Oh, really? Is McConnell Majority Leader or Majority Bystander? If he does not have overall management of hot button issues like this a few months from the election he is beyond pathetic.
