Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mark Milley on Thursday apologized for accompanying President Donald Trump on his walk to St. Johns Episcopal Church earlier June.
My presence in that moment and in that environment created a perception of the military involved in domestic politics, Milley told National Defense University graduates in a pre-recorded speech. As a commissioned uniformed officer, it was a mistake that I have learned from, and I sincerely hope we all can learn from it.
Milley, Secretary of Defense Mark Esper, and Attorney General William Barr accompanied President Trump to Lafayette Square after protesters were cleared from the park. Democrats and the corporate media accused law enforcement of deploying tear gas against the protesters, a claim shot down by the U.S. Park Police.
To curtail the violence that was underway, the USPP, following established policy, issued three warnings over a loudspeaker to alert demonstrators on H Street to evacuate the area. Horse mounted patrol, Civil Disturbance Units and additional personnel were used to clear the area, the U.S. Park Police said in a statement. As many of the protestors became more combative, continued to throw projectiles, and attempted to grab officers weapons, officers then employed the use of smoke canisters and pepper balls. No tear gas was used by USPP officers or other assisting law enforcement partners to close the area at Lafayette Park. Subsequently, the fence was installed.
As outrage from Trump critics grew, Esper said in a press conference that he was not aware he would be accompanying President Trump to St. Johns Church.
I was not aware a photo op was happening, Esper stated. I do everything I can to stay apolitical.
In the same briefing, Esper also said he opposed President Trumps call for deploying active-duty forces in a law enforcement role...

Don't say anything, Mr. President. Let the demonicRATS run him out of town on a rail.
As Mark Steyn said a few days ago, an American General hasn’t won a war in 76 years. Now we know why.
Yes it is insane.Like every person in uniform, he is sworn to the constitution and to follow orders from his superiors unless unlawful. I dont know whether he was ordered to follow Trump on that walk or if he did so on his own initiative. If he was ordered, there is certainly nothing unlawful about being told to accompany POTUS. If he was there on his own, then WTH you little cryin’ pussy. Just put in your resignation letter now.
You are correct. We are going to do nothing about losing our country and quite frankly...at this point...we don’t deserve to keep it. We haven’t been willing to fight for it since the 1960’s. I am glad I am old at this point. In many ways I am sorry my generation failed America.
Can’t wait for them to decide to blow up Lady Liberty for the racist symbol that she is.
Stockholm effect...
Everything a President does could be considered ‘political’... IF a General can’t walk with the Commander in Chief then commies have taken over the Pentagon.
I’m guessing ‘military’ jerks would NOT have a problem if a General sat next to President Trump while Trump talked with Black Lives Matter Thugs.
Hey corrupt brass - go make some speeches...
Then come back and give us a list of ‘non-political’ events a President might be involve in OTHER than kissing corrupt military butt.
Ed Sullivan:
And next on our stage, the beautiful Brenda Lee...... Let’s hear it...
“I’m sorry, so sorry
That I was such a fool
I didn’t know
That I was such an ass
Hole, hole, hole, hole, ahhh.”
demonicRATS seek to be photographed standing with those who set fire to the church.
Generals run like scared little rabbits at the very thought of being photographed standing in front of the church.
Let not your heart be troubled, Mr. President. God's Truth is marching on.
IIRC Milley didn’t want to let Eddie Gallagher go. He wanted the book thrown at Gallagher.
Milley is a jerk. He needs to retire. Today.
In other statements
What we are seeing is the long shadow of our original sin in Jamestown 401 years ago, he said, referring to the year in which the first enslaved Africans arrived on the shores of colonial Virginia.
Monarchists—Royal colonies excepted always—are the most blameless personages ever—Teflon-coated-sin.

All I know is, if I could travel back in time, I would certainly tell them “DON’T DO IT!!!!”
“My presence in that moment and in that environment created a perception of the military involved in domestic politics,”
That needs discussion.
I suppose our active military shouldn’t be involved in domestic politics.
And I suppose that if Milley was asked to come to that event based on false information, and he wouldn’t have come if he knew the truth, he might rightly be peeved.
Should have have gone public? That’s politics that’s over my head.
Vice President Pence WILL NOT turn on President Trump!
The LIEberals will wonder what happened when President Trump and Vice President Trump kick their ass on November 3!
And, the LIEberals will whine about their fate!
So we can assume he’s giving the green light to burn churches after the President stood strongly against it? He should be fired before sundown.
He should cut loose Milley and Esper post haste! SOBs.
Regrettably I agree with milley on this point. The military has a duty to remain apolitical. He made a stupid rookie mistake.
He sounds like he's ashamed of the uniform he wears. If that's the truth, then he should retire immediately, and let someone else with a set of balls do the job he's ashamed of doing.
He must be a perfumed Obama bitch.
