Minneapolis was a beautiful city with a promising future and unlimited potential. Gateway to the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Home of the Mall of America and a top tourist destination for sports fans, families, and college students.
Notice I say was. Because over the past two weeks Minneapolis has pretty much hung out the Going Out Of Business sign on the outskirts of town and allowed myopic officials and civic leaders to pave the way for the city to become Minnesotas version of Chicago.
Having served as President/General manager of WLS Radio for 6 ½ years from 1989 to 1996, I have a pretty good command of Chicago history. And am saddened to have watched it plummet from a shining urban success to the linear equivalent of the filmEscape From New York over the past decade. Rampaging bands of hooligansunchecked by spineless city officials who handcuffed the citys police forcehave helped turn Chicago into the unchallenged murder capital of the USA.
A friend in California shared a Tweet that observed, Pretty inspiring to watch the people of Chicago take a brief break from murdering each other to come out and protest police brutality.
That would normally seem in bad taste, if not for the fact that on May 31st Chicago logged the citys most violent day in over 60 years as 1818!men, women and children were gunned down in street violence. Max Kapustinsenior research director at the University of Chicago crime labtold the Chicago Sun-Times: Weve never seen anything like it, at all... I dont even know how to put it into context.
Of course, what is laughingly referred to as mayoral leadership in Chicago has devolved in recent years from the monosyllabic, tongue-tied Richard M. Daley to Rahm (Never let a good crisis go to waste) Emanuel and now the current mayor Lori Lightfoot, whose eloquence was on full display after President Trump criticized violent riots and looting in the wake of George Floyds killing by Minneapolis police. Mayor Lightfoot declared, My message to President Trump begins with F and ends with You. Classy.
Which whiplashes us back to Minneapolis, where a veto-proof majority of the City Council has voted to defund andhold onto your girdle, Myrtledisband the Minneapolis Police Department. In a town which was rightfully outraged over the tragic and needless murder of George Floyd, theyll be cleaning up the aftermath of the riots for months.
Mayor Jacob Freyseen goofily posing in Internet screenshots wearing socks emblazoned with Hillary Clintons facenow cannot stop the idiotic decision by his City Council to dismantle the police force who will be more essential than ever in keeping the peace in his city whether or not he will admit it. Time to put on your Big Boy socks, mayor. Or the only thriving business in your town will be the U-Haul franchises as people move their families and businesses elsewhere.
Minneapolis City Council President Lisa Benderappearing on CNNwas asked about her movement to dismantle the Minneapolis police.
Alisyn Camerota: "What if in the middle of the night my home is broken into. Who do I call?"
Lisa Bender: "Yes, I hear that loud and clear from a lot of my neighbors. And I know I know that that comes from a place of privilege."
If not wanting to be burglarized, raped or murdered constitutes a place of privilege in the mind of Minneapolis City Council, I probably wont be the only person scratching the city off my familys travel itinerary.
It is sad and pathetic that Americathe land of the free and the home of the brave, a nation where opportunity abounds and people cling to the bottom of pickup trucks just to get across our borders for a chance at a better lifehas been portrayed around the world by our slanted, mentally sick and agenda-driven media as home to little more than violent rioters and looters and rogue cops. While ignoring the very clear and present danger of public officials with a view of our nation similar to that of an ant.
Minneapolis hasliterally and figurativelyhung out the 'GOING OUT OF BUSINESS' shingle. Hopefully, the rest of America will learn from their mistakes.
in the 90s I travelled regularly to the Western suburbs for business, Wayzata, Minnetonka - places like that. I thought Minneapolis was a land of calm, contented, friendly midwesterners and decedents of solid, Scandinavian farmers.
Stopped going around 2002, so my already inexact memories also have not been updated.
Who knew the city had become such a shithole??
No voting in Minneapolis.
Me personally? A criminal defense lawyer.
Because there will be a dead body in my house and the slugs they dig out of his body will be a match for my Colt 1911.
Minneapolis is the new Detroit.
Those businesses will not come back, just like the ‘67 riots of Detroit.
Stick a fork in Minneapolis... .they are done!
End of Story, and End of Minneapolis.
i don’t even want to pass thru the airport now.
Last week in Chicago
Last Weeks Totals (5/31 6/6)
Shot & Killed: 29
Shot & Wounded: 138
Total Shot: 167
Total Homicides: 32
Good answer.
“Who knew the city had become such a shithole?”
Down here in Florida we knew.
You know when they elect communists, shoot women that call 911 and throw children from the second story walkway.
antifa isn’t gonna come at your house and break down the door.
You’re likely to not get a break in. I don’t know anyone who has and Im betting your neighborhood is safer than mine
what antifa and BLM would do is shoot you in the back or throw a Molotov cocktail at your car
This isn’t a filed of battle war.
It’s a weasel hit and run war
Hah!
Down here we call the sheriff and get a cleaned up for the photo ops with the sheriff shaking our hands.
It was. But then, as someone has pointed out, "demographics is destiny."
Downtown is horrible now; per capita violent crime rates are way up.
Because of the virtue signaling politicians, I think; together with importation of ...people who are not “calm, contented friendly midwesterners and decedents of solid, Scandanavian farmers”.
Both ingredients are necessary. One needs gasoline and a heat source for a nice arson.
What part of “fundamentally transforming America” did people not get when Hussein the Wunder Muslim bragged about it?
“””””””in the 90s I travelled regularly to the Western suburbs for business, Wayzata, Minnetonka - places like that.”””
That’s where I live. It’s still a pretty decent place.
But go a few miles East and you enter a different world.
I used to do a lot of work in Minneapolistan and St Paul on public housing projects and such.
I haven’t done any in at least five years.
it’s just not worth getting robbed and shot.
Also, each city has their own Department of Civil Rights and they make it tough for a honky to get anything done. The last time they came out they wanted to shut me down because I didn’t have any minorities, or as they called it the right kind of minorities.
I told them I am a left handed Norwegian which certainly must be a minority in that area. I thought it was funny. They didn’t. So I told them I would put an ad looking for employees that includes the phrase WHITES NEED NOT APPLY.
I don’t think they like me much.
Was a nice city, but obama’s somalis arrived, the democrats bowed down in submission, and we got the murder of Justine Damond, then this.
Everday, I think about those words.
Also these words:
Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual..
Democrats have ruined just about every city in the country. I understand that they have some sort of self destructive impulse in their dna, but why do they have to take everybody else with them? If we could figure out a way to make suicide kewl we might be able to solve a lot of problems....
