“The way that they performed the restraints violated department policy.”
I’m not sure here what you mean. The use of knee neck restraint is in the policy and training work of the police in the state. Here’s an interesting article for you that may help. In the article even a seasoned officer was not aware of the approved tact:
rwood
The way Officer Chauvin helped move Floyd's body to the gurney -- I think they all knew Floyd was dead and Chauvin looked like he was throwing away the trash.
bump
[[I wondered why three good sized police men had to bascially sit on Floyd]]
I personally know of a case where 3 large cops had all they could do to restrain a 98lb twig who was high on drugs- He beat the snot out of the cops before they were able to get him into the car and restr4aints inplace to keep him from continuing ot kick out the windows and tear the car up-— Floyd was a huge man- high on drugs-
A cop friend told me that people they tried to arrest that were on meth were as strong as 4 men. And at the end of their long shift, being worn out, it is very hard to subdue someone like that.
Intent, or the lack of it, matters a great deal.
Stop events with the military such as flyovers too.
Try this on for size: motive plus method, plus opportunity. Two and three are covered but motive is not.
If it is, then bring it forth. This differs from the Ga case where their post kill comments cover the motivation aspect.
The cop in this case should NEVER have been on the force...that fault lies with the city. They knew his background and his previous actions on the job.
“I Know It When I See It”
The cop kneeling on Floyd's back, Kueng, is black.
So one of the two cops who are allegedly responsible for this allegedly racist killing must be racist against his own race.
Right?
I have no problem with that statement. The vast, overwhelming majority of all police officers do a very difficult job and do it well and professionally. We need to show our appreciation to them.
Have we heard what Chauvin has to say for himself?
Since he's under arrest then I imagine his attorney is not letting him say anything.
The whole affair has a strange aroma to it...
I didn't miss it at all. Motivation, or lack thereof, is not important for the charges Chauvin is under arrest for.
Not sure how you arrive at your ideas painting Chauvin as essentially a heartless sociopath. Doesnt seem to be near enough evidence to back that. Usually sociopaths are found out long before they are middle-aged.
Watch his face during the whole process. No fear, no emotions whatsoever. He doesn't care what's happening to Floyd.
Its entirely possible that this was just one big F-Up. In fact that is what is most likely.
It may well be. I never suggested that Chauvin set out to kill Floyd, just that he wasn't concerned that it happened. But again, intent doesn't matter in the charges he is facing.
The real crime here was not recognizing the man was in physical distress and getting him medical care in a timely manner.
The crime is that they killed a man. Be is through screw up or be it deliberate there actions contributed to Floyd's death. We shouldn't lose sight of that.
Under certain circumstances and only if the officer applying it has been trained. And Minneapolis is one of the few departments that allow it because the process is also widely seen as being inherently dangerous to the suspect.
But allowing the restraint is not the same as allowing officers to use it to fatally injure someone. Chauvin went way beyond the recommended use of the restraint, ignored Floyd when he said he couldn't breathe, and also used it in combination with other dangerous restraints. Authorized or not, they gave their department all the excuse they needed to cut the officers loose and let them face the charges.
Legally no. Not in this case. The charges the officers are facing do not require that they intended to kill Floyd. Only that they did.
You're probably right. But he was on the job and it placed him in a situation where he killed a man.
I have to agree. Had they shown just a bit of concern, we wouldn't have had a week riots and fires all over the country.
Yes of course, but the left is using it to incite riots by claiming racism when the more likely excuse is he lost his marbles from stress. The amount of cops committing suicide today is through the roof, he went nuts. If he wanted to deliberately kill the guy, why would he do it knowing he was being filmed? Because he didn’t care. And if he was racist, what’s he doing working with a Hispanic and Asian partner? The left is trying to make people believe todays police are like the KKK going around lynching blacks solely for being black when the stats say they kill more whites than blacks, it’s just the media focuses solely on black killings. Last February two black cops shot a white guy in the back in Chicago for walking between subway cars. Completely brushed under the rug, no claims of racism, no claims that cops are killing whites solely for being white.
And?
So one of the two cops who are allegedly responsible for this allegedly racist killing must be racist against his own race.
Right?
Wrong. I have never suggested the Chauvin killed Floyd because he was black. I have no idea why Chauvin killed him. I only know that he's being charged with killing him.
I honestly don't care what the left is using this case for, or what the right is using it for. All I care about is that cops not be allowed to kill suspects unnecessarily. If they kill black suspects why should I assume they wouldn't also kill white suspects?
