The nation's capital braced itself with members of the National Guard guarding famous landmarks and patrolling a new pedestrian-only demonstration area as streets were closed off.
The White House remained a fortress, with black fences between seven and nine feet high erected around its perimeter cutting off protesters, as D.C.'s mayor formally renamed the street outside 'Black Lives Matter Plaza'.
Streets were shut in downtown from 6am as the first of the dozens of demonstrations organized for the day began and the city's metro system announced it was reopening cars closed due to coronavirus to boost rider capacity.

Really? You think this situation is under control and these people would not do that? They are already publishing articles on how to demolish the Washington Monument and are currently defacing all of our beautiful monuments and shrines to liberty and freedom in DC. They tried to burn down the historic church. They are tearing down monuments and statues all over the country and it’s no longer just Confederate memorials.
The White House has to be their ultimate prize. Do you really think they aren’t planning that? How hard would a coordinated attack with incendiary rockets be?

Yep, from the people who thought only a House vote, removes a President.
It’s a CROWS mount. It’s a remote operated gun turret that can hold most of our standard crew served and squad automatic weapons from 5.56mm to .50 cal. Without the gun and optics mounted, it is worthless. With a MK-19 Automatic Grenade launcher mounted, and less lethal 40mm rounds, a few HUMVEES could probably put a hurt on rioters quickly.

I don’t give a crap WHAT they are planning! You seem to think these rag tag bunch of punks can out fight the military? You ACTUALLY believe no plans are in place and in fact HAVE been in place for exactly this sort of a scenario?
Do you know anything about how the military plans for contingencies? Do you think they play it day by day and only come up with a game plan AFTER an attack?
Do you have any idea the defensive (and offensive) armament and electronic crowd control measures available for immediate use at the White House?
If you were under attack there would be no safer place to be than in the WH. My guess is the chances of anyone breaching the outer fencing of the WH and actually making it to the WH is probably 1 in 10,000 and that is conservative.

I have no idea, except an intuition that you’ll never get an accurate number these days because real reporters no longer exist. However, I am confident that the general rules of thumb for D.C. crowd sizes that I gave are reliable because there was a huge controversy over the size of the first anti-Vietnam war march in 1968. The Park Service purposely under-estimated the crowd at 200,000, but numerous newspapers and others tediously counted the people from aerial photos to come up with the correct figure of 500,000, which the Park Service eventually accepted. Later marches in 1969, 1970 and 1971 were much larger, some having 1,000,000 attendees, and I remember the ground they covered.
