RICHMOND, Va. (AP) Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam is expected to announce plans Thursday for the removal of an iconic statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee from Richmonds prominent Monument Avenue.
A senior administration official told The Associated Press that the governor will direct the statue to be moved off its massive pedestal and put into storage while his administration seeks input on a new location.

I'm sure that's coming.
But the Civil War was a war of Democrats against the rest of the country, and CW II is shaping up to be the same thing all over again. Sorry if the truth hurts. Not my fault.
Give it to Tennessee, we’ll be happy to take it.
You know what will happen next?
After all the statues are gone?
Historic battlefields will become parking lots and subdivisions, malls until there are none left.
Museums will be ransacked for any items pertaining to the South, all KKK materiel burned.
Republicans blamed
The soldiers who were man enough to beat Lee would spit in Blackface’s eye before they curbstomped what little brains he has out of his pumpkin.
Disgusting.
General Robert E. Lee, a descendant of somebody who worked with George Washington, and General Ulysses S. Grant were both honorable men. Lee’s surrender to Grant at Appomatox was dignified and peaceful. When I was a child, Dad took me to the very place in Appomattox (near the city of Lynchburg) where the surrender took place, near what is now U.S. 460.
Leave the statues alone, for Heaven’s sake!
A great Americann general...
Crazy...
Northam is a yellow dog who would soil himself if he met a guy like Lee in a dark alley.
Or maybe ponies, unicorns and furries that all fart skittles, you know, the colorless kind of skittles that are currently being sold.
I hope the thing is stored or bought by a private collector.
Not much hope for that given the penchant for destruction the libs have.
It will not stop with this.
Put General Lee in Klan robes and everything will be fine.
So right, grrrr. A Marine call to arms. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Chapultepec
Dont people have a say about anything any more? Even Lee and Grand made amends after the war.
this is exactly 1984......
No, he wants to keep the statues of Harry Byrd, that old race-baiter.
So when do they start rounding up us old people and trying to
make us wear dunce caps a la Maos Cultural Revolution ? (I say trying because a lot of us old people are armed)
And-Robert E Lee was a better man than the lot of them (though thats not a very high bar, actually doesnt give Lee his just credit )
Trouble is, the Republicans of that era were the race obsessed big city liberals of their day. They believed in government power, and tax and spending, and "crony capitalism" and the Lincoln administration ushered in an era of unparalleled corruption in government. They were the darlings of the Wealthy elite Liberal class.
The Democrats were demanding low taxes and reduced interference from the Federal government regarding the states.
The parties have flipped, mostly back in the 1930s when New York Liberal Franklin Roosevelt started offering free government money programs to buy votes. That socialism stuff came in on the Republican side during the era of Lincoln. Marx himself wrote Lincoln of his admiration for his policies.
What exactly are you trying to say? George Washington was part of the civil war? Your post is confusing
As a military school grad I can assure you that someone graduating with no demerits is not someone I would revere. It means blind adherence to the rules, and he probably went around pointing out everyones deficiencies.
We called them pinheads.
