A Democratic mayor is blaming "white men" for the destruction in major U.S. cities as protests turned to riots over the weekend following George Floyd's death.
After looting broke out across her city on Sunday night, Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan tweeted that white people had co-opted "peaceful demonstrations" that became violent as the weekend wore on.
"I want to acknowledge that much of the violence and destruction, both here in Seattle and across the country, has been instigated and perpetuated by white men," she said.
In a follow-up tweet, Durkan asserted that white protesters were utilizing their "privilege" to divert the purpose of the demonstrations, which began as a response to Floyd's death while in the custody of Minneapolis police last week.
"These individuals experience the height of privilege and are co-opting peaceful demonstrations that were organized by and meant to center people of color, particularly Black Americans," she said.
Durkan's comments came after Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety John Harrington blamed the riots in Minneapolis on "white supremacist organizers."
The Seattle mayor joined a chorus of media outlets who have alleged the nationwide protests are being enabled by white supremacist groups opportunistically taking advantage of civil unrest. On Friday, MSNBC host Joy Reid reported that St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter said over "80%" of arrested protesters were from out of state and that "white nationalist groups" were partly to blame.
Jail records taken after Thursday's mayhem in Minneapolis contradicted Carter's figures.

The rioters are not acting out of “oppression” - they are the ones acting out of pure entitlement and privilege. Leftists, their schools and institutions have fed them a life-long diet of racial and economic oppression, victimhood, and dependence. All their failings are due to others, and all their anger is righteous. Is it a surprise how leftist cities are now being burned and looted?
Watch the videos of the looting. The looters were laughing, knowing that the police just down the street would not act. The looters knew they were untouchable and had the protection of their leftist mayors and governors.
That is the very definition of “entitlement.”

If I were Trump, I would preach law and order - but make places like Seattle and NY restore order themselves. These leftists play with racial politics every day - and they are surprised their cities are burning? Its not worth stepping into the middle of that.

Yep, there were lots of phone videos of white men holding guns to the heads of blacks as they looted and burned your city. Come on, Stupid, you're responsible for what happens in your city and trying to deflect the blame just makes you look silly, indecisive, and powerless.

I have to agree, there is a considerable number of white young men and some women involved in these acts of domestic terrorism. Most of Antifa’s membership consists of privileged white upper an upper middle class indoctrinated extremest leftist university students. That much is true.
To call them “white supremacist organizers” seems strange, as leftist Democrat office holders are openly supporting these domestic terrorist groups, particularly Antifa, with their voices and money. Perhaps they are not aware of just who they are supporting? Seems unlikely though.
All this rampant racism against whites needs to stop.
