A much simpler solution would be “don’t live or work in NYC” and “move to somewhere where you are allowed to defend yourself with effective arms”.
No argument here, but still and all, the US Constitution gives every US citizen the right to keep and bear arms. So an even simpler solution if for Trump to appoint 2 more conservatives to SCOTUS and overturn all of the unconstitutional infringements of the Second Amendment to the US Constitution.
