My niece supervises a lab at Rochester General Hospital, and has to go into work Monday through Friday. I was born and raised in Rochester, but haven't lived there in years. All my family is gone except for my brother's widow, and my niece and her family. They live in Ontario, New York so are away from this crap. My niece's husband works for the Department of Recreation for Rochester. He's had to go into the city, a bad part of town, even during the lockdown to hand out food to the kids at the center. I'm going to call them later to see how they are doing.

Personally I would have gone back out there when the wife was getting the snot beaten out of her with my 7” hunting blade had start gutting those POS. Sure I’d probably die, but with dignity and I’d be taking a couple of them with me.
That’s my historic engagement window - and what this couple in NY was facing. Racking doesn’t work at all on multiple assailants and professional criminals interviewed in jail have stated that a shotgun rack doesn’t really do much to scare them off... and it just locates the non-shooting shotgun user.

When LEO’s are now being openly threatened and killed it’s getting readily apparent Americans are on their own for providing themselves safety.

While NY may have draconian handgun laws, there are a lot of hunters. A .30-30 would do a lot to discourage someone beating my wife with a 2x4 the goal being solely to stop the attack, you understand.

I would have responded “Well - you got health insurance - right?”
