Walz bolsters Guard troops after 4th destructive night

Gov. Tim Walz vowed Saturday to fully mobilize the National Guard to combat what he called a "tightly controlled" group of outside agitators who have turned city streets into scenes of looting and arson.

By all accounts, law enforcement presence was almost undetectable as the violence rapidly accelerated until just before midnight and into early Saturday, when hundreds of police officers, state troopers and National Guard troops, some in armored vehicles, fanned out into troubled areas, confronting rioters with mass force, tear gas and orders to disperse issued via bullhorn.

And yet, those efforts had visibly little impact for much of the night, and questions swirled among citizens and politicians about how such a dire situation could have developed in a long peaceable, progressive city.

Looters used children to help pull money from an overturned US Bank ATM near the intersection of East Lake Street and 10th Avenue South.

A group of protesters surrounded several National Guard vehicles that were driving on Lake Street towards the blockade under the Hiawatha Light Rail station in Minneapolis.

Agitators set the Wells Fargo on fire near the 5th Precinct.

People cheered as the plywood on the door at Wells Fargo went up in flames near the Fifth Precinct in Minneapolis Friday night.

Just as in the 1992 LA Riots, sending in unarmed Guard units does nothing but get troops injured or killed. The rioting in LA didn’t stop until the Guard was issued ammo and the first few cars running checkpoints got swiss-cheesed by medium machine guns.

I was just flipping past and didn’t see who it was but Neil Cavuto had on some Minnesota Democrat Congressman (don’t know if state or federal) who blathered law enforcement tactics against riot organizers. Obviously he was trying to warn them.

Groups “tightly controlled” means society is allowing the felony of insurrection to overthrow the established government. Others here will know and fight over the terms-—not again, please. Let’s call them “bad guys”.

By the way, the “suburban women” who dislike Trump for his rude languafe and harshness in his tweets hopefull will really be offended by rioters with filth on placards and spray painted words on buildings, destroyng police cars, looting stores and atms and burning buildings. How hard can it be to figure out who is organizing, sponsoring and paying them?

I’m dismayed that Trump has not taken ‘executive action’ against people who are instigating terrorism in our land. We do this to ring leaders like Soleimani who threaten us abroad so why not deal out the same fate to those who directly threaten our homeland?

Seems entirely justifiable to me. The alternative is to do nothing and subject our country to anarchists and terrorists.

Walz said 80% of rioters are not from Minnesota. I didn’t hear him say Antifa. He claimed it was cartels and white supremacists. And that they will release names of these people. We’ll see if they release all the names or just the ones that fit their narrative.
