DELRAY BEACH, Fla. (AP) As unrest spread across dozens of American cities on Friday, the Pentagon took the rare step of ordering the Army to put several active-duty U.S. military police units on the ready to deploy to Minneapolis, where the police killing of George Floyd sparked the widespread protests.
Soldiers from Fort Bragg in North Carolina and Fort Drum in New York have been ordered to be ready to deploy within four hours if called, according to three people with direct knowledge of the orders. Soldiers in Fort Carson, in Colorado, and Fort Riley in Kansas have been told to be ready within 24 hours. The people did not want their names used because they were not authorized to discuss the preparations.
The get-ready orders were sent verbally on Friday, after President Donald Trump asked Defense Secretary Mark Esper for military options to help quell the unrest in Minneapolis after protests descended into looting and arson in some parts of the city.

When you try and over run the White House I think it becomes an American issue....
> I say no ammunition <
Youre gonna catch a bit of flak for that one. I would seem to me that soldiers (and guardsmen) should be as well-armed as the police are.
But then the soldiers must be as restrained as the police are trained to be. No shooting unless absolutely, absolutely necessary. Because Im guessing that more than a few rioters are armed too. One wrong move, and its a gun battle with many unarmed folks in the middle.
Our side cant be the one that sets that off.
S what I was thinking...
These are state issues not federal. Keep the US military out of these things unless the governor asks for limited support. This is why our national guard is structured around the state and reports to the governors. No matter how bad things get keep the US military out

I don’t think President should send any federal troops unless Governor of Minnesota asks for help...
I don’t live near Mineapolis...However, I am still angry about what is going on in that city...
But, President should be careful in this case...
Youre a bit slow arent you?
Shall we bother to list ALL our President has accomplished while being attacked 24/7 for 4 years?
Or are you an Ann coulter fan who thinks they know whats really going on?
People like you are so infuriating
LOL — nice.
Not much action? Building the wall isn’t much action? Give me a break.

Worry about your beloved Japan and stay out of this.
Americans have a Communist Insurrection to contend with.
We haven’t had a federation of states since the Civil War. States have either had stolen or ceded most of their original powers.
I say no ammunition
Weapons that are outside of an armory MUST be loaded with ammunition. Thats how the weapon is protected or secured from physically being taken away from the user by having it loaded and ready to use.
Here in ATL, last night at about 2302 one of the WSB TV reporters said I think there are people here from out of town. It was a interesting moment for sure.
I think the same happened with Ferguson. I hope this time someone is looking into it.
Ordnance. They dont carry what your city council passes.
Trying to get people killed.? The rioters have guns and ammo.
Personally Id have the 82nd Airborne on standby.

Actually it is true. She just left out the part about the perps most often are other blacks.
“The President cannot send troops until/unless the state governors ask for them.”
Wallace didn’t ask for troops, but he got them, anyhow. “On June 10, 1963, President John F. Kennedy FEDERALIZED NATIONAL GUARD troops and deployed them to the University of Alabama to force its desegregation. The next day, Governor Wallace yielded to the federal pressure”
Actions speak louder than words.
But POTUS better be crystal clear about the ROE.
