The former Minneapolis police officer shown on video putting his knee on the neck of George Floyd has been arrested, according to Minnesota Public Safety Commissioner John Harrington.
Derek Chauvin, who was fired on Tuesday along with three other officers involved in the detainment of Floyd, was taken into custody Friday.
Video showed Chauvin kneeling on Floyd's neck for at least eight minutes on Monday night. The police department initially said Floyd "physically resisted" the officers and that he died after "suffering medical distress."

Why should the cop get away with murder just people are rioting?
I would need a Minnesota lawyer to explain the differences between first, second and third degree murder, but the amount of time between when the cop knelt on Floyd and when he died seems to give more tban enough time for his actions to be considered premeditated. If I were on the jury given what I've seen, I would have no difficulty at all with recommending the death penalty for that cop.
Unfortunately I just heard that he was arrested for only third degree murder and manslaughter.
The mayor has promised that the guilty cop will be tried and convicted.
Why would they drop the case? Theres plenty of probable cause to arrest him.
The issue is do we pease angry violent mobs?
Why don't we feed the guilty man to the angry mob and let them do what they want with him? Kill two birds with one stone, so to speak?
Derek Chauvin-ist Pig :)
Grandpa Dave.. forgot to mention.. masks are helping to make sure that any video surveillance footage would NOT allow rioters and looters to be identified thanks to their masks.
How convenient for the law breakers.
Not funny, dude
I have no idea where they’re going to be able to try this case. Not in Minneapolis, for sure.

GD thanks you for this reminder.
Your logic is bizarre.
Take a little time to think, and I’m sure you’ll reach a less deplorable position than “free a guilty man to punish the angry mob.”
I see knee kop in the video not only on Mr. Floyds neck but moving his knee back and forth multiple times and that rolls Mr. Floyds Head and Neck and that just HAS TO HURT worse than just holding the Neck with a knee maneuver.😷

The more cowardly the Prosecutor the less the crime.
Mike F. is a pussy. So was Amy Klobucher. So is the mpls mayor
I’ll get a sore wrist: they are all pusses.

Do you have private information that suggests it should be a higher charge. If so, please share.
Justice needs to be served. Whether or not it would appease the protesters is irrelevant.
Because we are a nation that believes in the rule of Law and that the officer is entitled to representation by an attorney and a trial by jury. How would you like it if you were accused of something heinous and someone suggested you be turned over to a bloodthirsty mob?
Not upholding the conduct BUT what we are witnessing is these Cops becoming the sacrificial goats on the alter of Mob rule...
But the author of the original post wanted to let him the go completely because of the rioting. Where does the rule of law play into that?

If I were the accused I'd want the original posters suggestion of letting me go free. If I'm the guy he killed I'd probably want mob justice but would settle for trial.
I heard a lawyer say that premeditation doesn't take a certain amount of time. You can decide to kill and do it in the same minute and that's enough for first degree murder. It's harder to prove without other actions to prove premeditation like buying a gun, but it still can be first degree. Eight minutes of kneeling is more than enough to show a planned intention to kill.
Noor was found guilty by a Minneapolis jury and sentenced by the judge to 12 1/2 years in prison.
My hunch is that's about what Chauvin will get, give or take.
Then there will be more riots, hmmmm.....
(You can look up "Mohamed Noor" on Wiki for details).
