Because we are a nation that believes in the rule of Law and that the officer is entitled to representation by an attorney and a trial by jury. How would you like it if you were accused of something heinous and someone suggested you be turned over to a bloodthirsty mob?
But the author of the original post wanted to let him the go completely because of the rioting. Where does the rule of law play into that?

If I were the accused I'd want the original posters suggestion of letting me go free. If I'm the guy he killed I'd probably want mob justice but would settle for trial.

Listen to Don Lemon’s over the top comments on CNN today where he of course blames Trump for the slowness in charging the police officer. He clearly does not understand the judicial system — it is the Democrat controlled local and state government that conducts the investigation and determines whether or not the evidence is sufficient to try.
Unfortunately, progressives seem to be advocating an end for due process and presumption of innocence in heinous white on minority crimes. Lynchings cannot be far away, egged on by the media and politicians.
The left and liberalish Freepers argue: Floyd was given a death sentence by the police blah blah.See how that works? The death of Floyd is not my argument. Any idiot can see what it is and go kill the ex cops and burn their houses down but that is not law. Time was of the essence and the Democrats in charge totally are responsible for all of this. The mayor did fire them all which was unprecedented and the FBI got involved immediately also unprecedented all before actual due process.
