The World Health Organization is recommending healthy people, including those who don’t exhibit COVID-19 symptoms, only wear masks when taking care of someone infected with the contagion, a sharp contrast from the advice given by American public health officials who recommend everyone wear a mask in public.
“If you do not have any repository symptoms such as fever, cough or runny nose, you do not need to wear a mask,” Dr. April Baller, a public health specialist for the WHO, says in a video on the world health body’s website. “Masks should only be used by health care workers, caretakers or by people who are sick with symptoms of fever and cough.”
The recommendation differs from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which urges individuals to wear a mask or face covering in public settings, regardless of infection or not

That’s a dishonest assessment of the MacIntyre study about cloth masks. People were misinterpreting that study so badly the MacIntyre felt the need to set things straight.
Yeah, especially since we know that anyone not living in a skilled nursing facility is not at risk.

No, dust masks are designed to filter out dust to keep some of it out of your respiratory system in a hazardous environment. If you are coughing or sneezing in them you might be sick. In that case you are re-breathing the germs your body is trying to get rid of which is likely to help prevent you from getting better.

The N95 mask is very restrictive. It is difficult to breathe air in while wearing it due to this restrictive nature. That's why it is so effective. However, it contains a check valve that makes it easy to breathe out. It does not stop any virus content from being expelled from an infected person.
The public is told, endlessly, that mask wearing in public is necessary in order to protect the population from infected users. The N95 mask does not do this.

The statement is accurate, but doesn't fully describe the situation. Virus "particles" are very small, but are not the complete problem. They are carried on droplets of mucous and saliva from an infected person, which are much bigger. Dust masks can stop these larger droplets. Viruses floating around in free air are generally not the problem.
