THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. AP’s earlier story is below:

A lawyer for the family of a fugitive college student said Wednesday the 23-year-old suspect in two Connecticut slayings has no outdoor survival training and his parents are begging him to bring a peaceful end to the search that has stretched to Maryland.

Since the first homicide on Friday, investigators have followed the trail of Peter Manfredonia through New Jersey and Pennsylvania, where police on Wednesday said someone matching his description took a ride-hailing service to the Hagerstown, Maryland, area.

An attorney for Manfredonia’s family, Michael Dolan, told The Associated Press they are worried for the well-being of the University of Connecticut senior.

“That’s why they are extending this message. They’re there for you. They are going to support you through this with their resources, their love and support,” said Dolan, who declined to say whether Manfredonia has been in contact with his family. “They are begging him to put a peaceful end to this.”

Manfredonia is wanted by Connecticut state police in the machete killing of 62-year-old Ted DeMers and wounding of another man in Willington on Friday. Manfredonia went to another man’s home, held him hostage, stole his guns and truck, then drove on Sunday about 70 miles (110 kilometers) southwest to Derby, Connecticut, state police said.

Police say Manfredonia went to the home of a high school classmate, Nicholas Eisele, shot him to death, forced Eisele’s girlfriend into her car and fled the state. The girlfriend was found unharmed with her car at a rest stop on Interstate 80 in Columbia, New Jersey, police said.

If they had not added metric measures to the story, I would have been lost.

“He was found in Hagerstown, Maryland. He was not injured and no officers were either during the arrest, police said.”

No other details.

From the Baltimore Sun:

Police in Pennsylvania say Manfredonia was spotted Tuesday morning in Chambersburg, Pa., carrying a black bag believed to contain firearms, before he took an Uber to nearby Hagerstown, Md.

Hagerstown police were still searching for Manfredonia “as if he is still in the area until we can prove otherwise,” the department said in a statement Wednesday night. Police also cautioned residents there to lock their homes, not answer their door unless they know who is visiting and not approach Manfredonia if they do spot him.

“At this time, we believe that the suspect was and possibly still is, in the Hagerstown, Washington County area,” the statement said. “We are working closely with allied law enforcement agencies and we urge the public to use extreme caution.”

Police sources say Manfredonia was caught about 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, police near Scranton searched a wooded area near an old coal mining town after another possible sighting of Manfredonia.

Police and a crew aboard a Pennsylvania state police helicopter searched a wooded area near Duryea, Pa., late Tuesday and early Wednesday after a firefighter reported seeing a man matching Manfredonia’s description behind a firehouse, according to Duryea police. The search ended after several hours and came up empty.

On Tuesday, Pennsylvania State Police warned Uber and Lyft drivers that Manfredonia “may attempt to solicit ride-sharing services, possibly through third-party means, to flee the area.” Law enforcement officials said he may also seek refuge in wooded areas, a hotel or motel, or an abandoned building.

A man matching Manfredonia’s description was seen at a Sheetz convenience store in Chambersburg, which is just off I-81 in southern Pennsylvania about 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday. A black Hyundai Santa Fe stolen from East Stroudsburg, Pa., near where Manfredonia was sighted about 6 p.m. Sunday, was recovered near the Sheetz store.

Police said the person they believe could be Manfredonia then received a ride from an Uber driver to Hagerstown, about 24 miles south of Chambersburg.”

His facebook says he was from Sandy Hook and went to high school at Newtown High School. Just an interesting side note.

An unrequited love story? It appears to have too many actors for a triangle.

His FB page makes him look like a normal, good looking college guy. Scary what’s in a person’s mind. I’m wondering if daddy did something to him as a child, and, I’m wondering if he plays on another team.

Quite a few of these people look and seem normal. When the story broke, I read he had been seeing a shrink but I can’t recall for what problems.

As a UCONN alumni, I am very sorry that my school has this nutcase as a student. He should be going to the University of Somers (For those not in Connecticut, Somers, a nice town, has the state prison there).

That said, GO HUSKIES!!

This is why I consistently conceal and carry to protect my wife and myself in case of the very remote possibility of encountering a psycho like this.
